He set himself up just over a year ago as sole trader.

He managed to get a 63 plate High top, LWB Transit, a bit beat up but low mileage. He lives in Kent. Last week he was doing his sister a favour & working at her place in Manchester. The van was parked up for 4 days, although did move in the daytime.

It got nicked between 22.00 -23.20. Nothing on anybody's door cam's, no noise, nothing, the alarm wasn't triggered. It was found the following morning 1 1/2 miles away. They had broken into a factory & actually removed the engine, gear box & ONE headlight. Skil saw & chop saw were taken along with some smaller bits. Around £600 of tools. But they left lots of bits behind.

So stolen to order, an engine winch was taken into the broken into factory, no way they would get it out otherwise & the police think the van was towed away. The police have absolutely no leads, nothing left, no dabs or DNA.

The thing is we had recently discussed tools cover & I had said 'It's not worth it' as most policies only cover kit upto 2 years old. I feel totally gutted for him.

Anyone lost a couple of Stihl hedge cutters?https://landscapejuicenetwork.com/forum/topics/anyone-lost-a-couple-of-stihl-hedge-cutters2020-10-12T18:49:21.000Z2020-10-12T18:49:21.000ZAdam Woodshttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/honestservices

Our local FB selling site has just listed a HLA85 and a HSA 86 with batteries but no charger in Bournemouth.

It seems a bit suspicious to be selling these imo .... especially with no chargers

Have you ever had your tools/equipment stolen?https://landscapejuicenetwork.com/forum/topics/have-you-ever-had-your-tools-equipment-stolen2019-09-30T16:20:50.000Z2019-09-30T16:20:50.000ZSimply Businesshttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/SimplyBusiness

Hi everyone, over the last few years, we've seen an ongoing rise in the number of people having their tools and equipment stolen – often from their vans.

Does this ring true for you guys? And MyGardenSchool has now grown quite a lot. We're trialling an initiative where we'd like to find 10 people who would be happy to learn together in one class - and really feel like they would benefit from being taught by some of the best experts in the world (Piet Oudolf, Michael Marriott from David Austin, Dr Noel Kingsbury, Annie Guilfoyle, Dr Toby Musgrave and others). I would like to offer a select group of Landscape Juice Members this opportunity to trial a course of their choice with us at www.learningwithexperts.com/gardening (you can take your pick from there). But you must meet the following criteria:

Be a practising (or aspiring) gardener, landscaper or designer (ideally not formally qualified)

Not have experienced MyGardenSchool before

Willing to share your experience socially and take photographs of your work

What you will get: This is an experiment, so we're keen to follow your progress of how you learn and interact as a group, and understand how you interact with your tutors.

You really will get feedback from Dr Noel Kingsbury personally (or the other tutors you choose to study with). If more than 10 people want to do this, we will split you into groups. However we won't make this happen unless there is interest from at least 10 of you (as it's the group dynamic we want to study). We will need you to pay something towards the course, but once we reach 10+ volunteers we are happy to reduce the price to 50% of our normal rate (eg for Annie Guilfoyle's urban design course, this is a reduction of several hundred pounds).

Dr Noel Kingsbury and Piet Oudolf are right behind this study (as are the others), and are also producing a new course about the Highline next year.

I thought I would post on here to gauge interest. Here is where you can choose your course selection (we are assuming that Piet and Noel, and the higher priced courses will be chosen, as you get £100s off, but that may not be the case. Please let me know (and happy to discuss on here) if this is of interest. Or you can email me privately on elspeth@learningwithexperts.com - but I will let people know on here when we reach a group of 10.

Finally once you've all studied together, we like the idea of introducing you in person. We are currently looking to do a small show garden at Chelsea Flower Show next year, and would like to involve some of this group in it.

Please post here if you'd like to take part and if we do get 10 of you interested we will start the experiment (I will write back to you with the codes to access classes).

Stolen from locked van outside house in broad daylighthttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/forum/topics/stolen-from-locked-van-outside-house-in-broad-daylight2017-07-10T05:41:02.000Z2017-07-10T05:41:02.000ZTed Waldronhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/TedWaldron

Malmesbury, N. For the princely sum of £204 I bought the stihl bg86 which those responding to my post recommended. The first time I used it I thought it was fantastic. The second time I used it, it was stolen! Despite me putting it out of sight of the road outside the garden I was working in, some toe rag nicked it while I was up a ladder cutting a hedge.Anyway, my tools are not insured as I couldn't afford the extra premium. I just wondered if there's any point in reporting it to the police just in case they recover the blower? My reservation is that I think they are unlikely to recover it, and once I've reported it my insurance premium might rise next year. What do you think?
Stihl Trimmer & Blower/Vac Stolen.https://landscapejuicenetwork.com/forum/topics/stihl-trimmer-blower-vac-stolen2016-08-22T10:49:19.000Z2016-08-22T10:49:19.000ZAshley Meredithhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/AshleyMeredith

Hey guys,

Had some equipment stolen (3rd time this year).

Please keep your eyes open for a Stihl HS 45, Bar length 24" / 60cm Trimmer & Stihl SH 86 C-E Vac/Blower.

Solihull Area,

Thanks

Stolen Tools Wolverhampton Areahttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/forum/topics/stolen-tools-wolverhampton-area2016-06-17T05:10:50.000Z2016-06-17T05:10:50.000ZAshley Normanhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/AshleyNorman
Hi Guys,Mine and me bros can was broke into yesterday on b and q car park in bilston. I honestly wouldnt of thought it was possible, but they were obviously well versed in the exercise, so be warned and have other measures in place. Also there was no damage to the standard lock mechanism, so i suspect they had some sort of master/override key that has been mentioned by other people that have had stuff stolen, with no obvious damage.

Ive now fitted extra eyebolts in the back of the van to secure to, also found a company online that do high quality alarmed padlocks, 110 decibels in the back of a van will hopefully be unbearable

http://www.kabrus.co.uk/xl101.html

I had one of the older style Etesia Pro 46 PHTS mowers, which i prefer because of the central handle, enabling easy lifting into the side of the van. Not to keen on the newer ones handles, so if anyone has a reasonable condition, older self propelled Pro 46 they dont need clogging up the garage/shed/lockup let me know. I have a spare Hayter mower to use for now, but its not really commercial grade, so i need to make a decision on a new mower soon. Or if anyone can suggest another model with similar handle to the Etesia, as i really dont like the traditional handle type machines.

Tools Stolen from Vanhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/forum/topics/tools-stolen-from-van2016-01-31T22:31:29.000Z2016-01-31T22:31:29.000ZLee Freemanhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/LeeFreeman
So this morning was woken up by neighbours knocking door to tell me van door was wide open. £2,000 worth of Stihl tools gone, Hedge cutter, Chainsaw, Combi and attachments, Blower and various other bits drills etc. Police and forensics at a loss as to how it's been done as no sign of forced entry and now face a battle with insurance. She's also had a Tanaka combi tool (strimmer/pole chainsaw/ hedge cutter tken. The Tanaka's aren't that common so I would ask if anyone hears anyone selling one of these who doesn't seem genuine to get in touch. Everyone you speak to (and not just in the horticultural trades) seems to suffer theft at some time or another. It feels like we have an incident about once a year.
If you are fortunate enough not to have gear pinched, what's the secret?
We are a Garden Maintenance company - if you are too, do you chain up machinery you are not using inside your vehicles, or take it all with you at each site. Or do you fit extra locks to rear and side doors?
Has anyone ever had gear recovered by the Police. (Fat chance probably?)
Is the electronic theft so easy that anyone can do it, or is it more skilled and organised?
Does everybody always report theft?
What can the industry do about it?
Is there a data base of stolen equipment?

Interested in any replies, positive or negative on this somewhat sore topic!

Arbsafe stolen equipment registerhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/forum/topics/arbsafe-stolen-equipment-register2014-10-05T08:42:16.000Z2014-10-05T08:42:16.000ZPhil Voicehttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/philvoice

Arbsafe is a new initiative by http://Arbtalk.co.uk and sponsored by Stihl GB as a direct response to the continued increase in crime targeted at our industry

I had booked a fencing delivery for last Monday, as far as I was aware it had arrived as the fencing company sent me an ivoice that night. We turned up at the job and there were no panels in site. I called the supplier and they said it had benn delivered to 140 but it should have gone to 120! The first problem is 140 was on the delivery ticket normally I could accept that I may have given the wrong address but the job was for one of my closest friends so I know I would have said 120.
Second issue is I went to 140 and they said there was a delivery on their drive on Monday and was gone on Tuesday so I am now £700 out of pocket and not sure what to do next

STOLEN crusher !!!https://landscapejuicenetwork.com/forum/topics/stolen-crusher2014-07-06T11:05:19.000Z2014-07-06T11:05:19.000Zdanielhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/daniel

Bad news. I have beend conned into hiring a crusher, and he has not returned at along with the plant trailer. He recently did the same scam to one of my suppliers and they lost two dumpers and a crusher. They got one dumper back after it was seen for sale on ebay, but he has not been caught.
Same name, same details. PAYG phone, fake email address. I have got some leads. It was alst seen in yaxley, peterborough.
The trailer is unmistakable, as its painted red, the crusher is only 6months old, and with only one supplier of spares, i think its a matter of time before its brought by someone unsuspecting, and they get caught when they buy spares.

below is the crusher in the trailer. still waiting 24 hours later for the police to arrive:(

Stolen gearhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/forum/topics/stolen-gear2014-07-04T19:35:40.000Z2014-07-04T19:35:40.000ZMatthew Lowehttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/MatthewLowe

Hi folks,

Went into work this morning and realised we had had a break in last night, thieves came into our premises (where we teach and train up students with special needs and disabilities practical horticulture and life skills). The thieves had taken a range of gear from us (including gas heaters, leaf blowers, drills and other power tools).

We are based in West Stirlingshire and I would ask any guys up this way to keep an eye out for any people trying to sell them any dodgy kit.

I have been searching on gumtree and ebay for any of the stuff but so far no luck.

Hopefully we will be able to track them down, and if not find sources to fund replacement gear to enable us to carry on as normal with the students.
