Cutting Porcelain Pavers/Tiles?

Hello,

Just about to start a Terrace using 20mm Porcelain and looking for nice Discs to cut the Tiles with...

Anyone have any advice on particular discs to use o(or not)?

Also, I would be very interested to know whether other contractors use 9" Grinders for this task....Or can advise on a professional Tile-cutting Machine that will do the job better than a Grinder (but won't cost the earth)?

Thanks for any help/advice.

Sam.

    Hi Sam

I do a lot of woodwork and I love the kit from Festool.

I have the TS55 plunge saw. It's known for its accuracy of cut. It's used by so many joiners.

I didn't realise until recently that it is also capable of precision cuts on stone, inc porcelain (you have to have a special blade though).

Just to add....there's also a Festool dust extractor that attaches to this.

The Festool equipment isn't cheap but it's very good.

It's imperative to use a wet cut with porcelain and a specialist porcelain blade. It's good practice to keep the blade and the porcelain cool. Also, the blades will not last as long as standard diamond blade, however it is possible to get extra life out of them after a run of porcelain cutting by periodically cutting through a softer material such as a breeze block.
We offer porcelain blades by Natural Paving on our website and from experience, they work very well. Never use a standard blade as the porcelain will 'explode' when cutting!
