I have yet to smash any windows strimming in 9 years of self employment, work with low revs and this will not occur.

  • can think my self lucky someone i know cuts church yards grass they put a stone though a stain glass window  took out the cntre piece of glass and the rest fell out  very costly
  • What is an alternative to strimming, scythe?
  • Goat..?

  • Think you might have had a bit of good luck there as well Paul ....... even at low revs, I've had stones fly out at quite a speed in an unexpected direction and break a window. Fortunately, the customers have been willing to put it through their insurance and I've paid the excess

  • A bit harsh i think Paul. Working in large rural gardens is always going to be less risky than in the suburbs surrounded by glass.  Ive broken a few in my time and it wasnt through being careless.  These days we probably  bust about two per year between five of us.

  • Ive done it aswell, nothing to do with bad technique, just bad luck!

have to agree with Paul on this one, been doing strimmer work for years and never done any damage and I have worked in packed out Tescos and  Asda's car parks etc. It is certainly ALL about technique and a lot of mental RAMS
  • Agree more bad luck, when I worked as an employee many years ago I smashed a patio door and got a long lecture by the boss on low speeds etc, as he demonstrated his technique he hit a stone chip and smashed the other patio window.
I carry a couple of 8x4 sheets of thin ply now and cover any glass doors, windows etc.
  • Well funny Gary, wish id been there.  We managed to break the same window twice within a year, i went mad at the gardener responsible. I always tell them to use weedkiller to edge off with if it looks too risky.
