Evening all,I thought that some of you would like to see a contraption that I built about 20 months ago to sort out our garden. The earth was full of builders rubbish and glass from the "developers" who remodelled our house prior to us moving in.It cost me £45 to build and can proccess around 1 ton per hour with 2 barrows and 2 people. We call him SID, the Soil Improvement Device and he is the man when it comes down to what would normally be a very painfull or expensive exercise.See him in full effect here... http://rammedearth.webs.com/apps/videos/videos/view/3018948-sid-one-last-job-Enjoy!

  • Fantastic, are you going to apply for a slot on Dragons Den?
  • I'm not in this for the money, I want as many people as possible to copy this and avoid a life of back pain or bank pain!

This is going to be the topic of a weekend post on Landscape Juice - it's Just brilliant.

...Just to add though that Belle do a sieve attachment for their mixers to remove stones from soil (I first saw one used at a plant nursery for removing lumps from compost).
  • The trouble with those drum style sieves is that they don't allow the separated elements, rubbish, stones, weeds etc to be collected seperatley and cleanly. They spray stuff all over the shop.

SID enables you to use different sized mesh screens layered obove/below each other to separate and collect in a continuous and almost seamless operation.

The video shows him in his Mk7 set-up, search for "Sid Soil" on YouTube for more videos...

  • Gardeners World is about to start so I guess things are gonna get a little quiet on this forum, i'm gonna watch it too as I need to get my jargon up to speed if i'm gonna be conversing with all you experts!

Maybe I might find new words to use instead of my generic "stuff" to describe plants and seeds and... Stuff.

Could you knock up some construction plans (perhaps on Google Sketchup)?

    Brilliant.

When the drill burns out I have a 240v mixer engine you can have, if you want it, give me a nudge, I've kept them all over the years.
  • All the construction plans will be in my new DIY Rammed Earth Manual which is due to be available as of Easter 2010, put 50p a week away from now until then and you wont even feel the dent in your pocket!

  • The drills last about 13-15 tons, I usually keep my reciept but B&Q are starting to smell a rat! Maybe the time has come to fit a proper motor, how could I regulate the speed though?
