Hey guys
I'm thinking about getting a chipper. Maximumish £500 around 6hp - preferabally good condition 2nd hand. Really to compact waste more. From looking about most stuff that I'm seeing has a low discharge chute which I see as not very practical, I think it looks like an up and over dischatge chute is easier to use. Am I correct?

I find a low chute ok, I lay out a tarpaulin, then gradually move the shredder backwards as the pile builds up. Don't get me wrong, I'd like one with a chute, but on a budget I'd rather buy a low discharge chute machine that can shift waste more quickly.
The waste is fairly easy to shovel in to bags or barrow on to borders.
You may find £500/ 6hp a bit too slow, have you thought about the Eliets - Minors/ Majors etc, will easily go in to back gardens.
Discharge chutes seem to always be more money! I suppose because of the 'fan' system to lift the chippings. Where are you Al? I have a 15hp Titan pro which I got new a few years ago. Not the best machines but you can have it cheap if you're interested. I replaced it with a 2nd hand Eliet last year so it's surplus. The Titan is in good nick and doesn't do a bad job it's just quite slow to feed. You kind of get used to the drop discharge as Scott says and you get more power.
Thanks Jim, I’m in sunny Surrey and in all honesty you are a little way from me :(
No worries mate just a thought :)
