Hi all,

Pretty dry and sunny up here in Glasgow (no really) and need to put some grass seed down in next few days.

Although there are a few showers forecast was wondering if it would be possible to use my knapsack sprayer for watering in as outdoor taps appear to be a thing of science fiction in the city.

The sprayer has been used to put down soluble iron and Bayer Pistol in last few weeks but was wondering if I ran a few tanks of water through it and cleaned the nozzle out etc it would be usable or will there still be chemical residue left in whatever I do?

  • It's supposed to rain the next 2 days!
You would not get enough water down in my opinion using a sprayer,as well as the danger of herbicide residues

How to neutralise pesticide residues in a knapsack sprayer.

Fill to the top with water and then add an egg cup full of Sarsons vinegar and half an egg cup full of washing up liquid. Agitate and leave for 24 hours.
  • Cheers all,

Good advice as ever and nice tips there for future use Paul and Phil. Could well come in handy.

  • I have a cheap sprayer I keep specifically for this purpose; no chemicals have ever been in it.  I also find it easiest to use if I bungy it to a two-wheeled fishing trolley; carting around 18 litres of water on your back isn't easy at my age.
