Top Buxus works very very well.

A cheaper alternative is liquid seaweed foliar spray -- fish blood bone at roots if needed.

But Top Buxus does give definate results that are clear to see within 6 months to a year. - It can work so well ive dropped from the 4-5 applications to 1 or 2 because the growth rate was so intense on one site - other sites it took a few seasons for strong effects to show -- depands a lot on soil situ and overall plant health to begin with.

I would say a good mulch is a good idea but theres a theory that helps the box blight grow -- which leads to are you sure its not got blight ?

      Hi Dan,

Thanks for your reply! I will definitely have a look at Top Buxus- it's something different at least. With other properties, I generally just keep the plants well watered at the roots and a dose of blood, fish and bone! That seems to work reasonably well, but some customers want quick results as we all know!

Pretty sure it's not box blight- I believe it's root stress due to the south discoloration in the foliage and from what I understand, the plants were rarely watered if at all!

If you sure its not blight a mulch does help -- i have a lot of box at one situ and we mulched some and not others and you can clearly see the difference of growth and thats with buxus and fish bone blood on all.

If there is the possibilities of blight -- 'strulch' or similar is supposed to help prevent box blight whilst doing mildy similar but havent used it and adds costs.

Top Buxus does work though -- its not mega expensive but is far more than liquid seaweed.

          Brilliant cheers.

Do you recommend a liquid seaweed? I've never used foliage sprays just in case of scorch.

          • PRO

Top Buxus is a foliar spray and as long as you avoid the sunniest of hot days ( thats easy LOL) never had any scorch issues -- others have mentioned liquid seaweed does a very simialr job - but theres more in top buxus nutrient wise than seaweed so i wouldnt expect it to be quite so effective although its massively cheaper.

Not sure why foliar feeds seem to work so well on box - must be something to do with volume of leaves and direct entry to the visual part of the plant ?

            Either way it works !

  • Topbuxus Grow is a good granular feed for first thing in the season but should be used sparingly though as it’s pretty powerful stuff. Topbuxus Health Mix is the foliar feed that can be applied every 6 weeks throughout the growing season and is good for general health and improving resistance to blight.

Its not cheap, but it’s not cheap because it works.

Cheers guys! I've ordered some Health Mix so will use that in conjunction with the standard Fish Blood and Bone!

      Thanks again
