Best form of advertising

Hi everyone,

Just looking for some feedback on what you consider to be the best form of addvertising and why. Over the years I have tried many forms of addvertising, from local papers to yell and a whole host of other directories. Leaflets and all the usual things. The last two years I have been using the web as our only form of addvertising and have had enquiries comming out of my ears. Whats your oppinion?

  • yeah, bit harsh chris.

Advertising is one of those great unknowns. If we knew what worked many publications would go out of business! What works with one business may not work for another.

There's often lots of talk on here about local village mags but my adverts have never worked! leaflets and direct mailing worked for me at the start but by far the best is word of mouth.

  • Local parish mag advert has been the best money i have ever spent.

  • For new business the Internet cannot be beaten for repeat business what you supply/do is key. Referrals are very powerful and state that previous work was excellent as far as the client was concerned. Get those right and you will have a thriving business...then if you wish to go to the next level....the real work begins.

  • The internet works well for me but we need a large geographic market.

  • Sign written van!

  •

The best form of advertising, if only I new;)

Let everyone local to you know who you are, many ways of doing this, I do them all.

  • Local parish magazines and directories - more than pay for themselves.

Internet for us equals lots of enquiries and lots of time wasters also.

But the best way is to get referred on by existing customers and to let customers know the services that you offer each time you see them.

  • In my first year i had good results from proper printed ads in shop windows, not the hand written scrawl so often seen!

but by far, the website has bought in most work to date and recomendations

I recently, in the last week put an advert in a locally delivered publication called The Little Black Book i had seen it before but previously didnt want to spend to much on advertising, now further down the line, with plenty of buffer in the bank account i gave it a try and was quite suprised to get four enquiries with in a week of it going out to the local area. Not sure how it will pan out a few months later as it is an annual publication, so plenty of scope for it to go missing, be buried by paperwork, eaten by the dog etc! but i have already got enough work from it to cover the cost of the advert, so cant complain :-)

  • Our best advertising is leaflets, but mainly as we dish out so many in a year. The website does ok, and we get alot of word of mouth. We do a lot of tendering to for the commercial work.
