Be safe out there!

just a warning to everyone!

had an accident yesterday doing something so very simple yet it turns out quite dangerous!

got asked to do some stock fencing for someone something I don’t really do but good client so said I’d do it. Post basher ended up bouncing off the top of post and hitting me in the head instead!

so stay safe everyone!

      Hi Fraz

re steel toecaps - I've been unable to wear these since breaking my toe some years ago. However, I've found that composite work boots are so incredibly comfortable I even wear them for dog walks! I did take time to try on different makes /styles. Necessary for my little 3 1/2 size feet...

Also on the boot front have a look at the timberland pro range. They are expensive but they are light some have the composite toe caps making them lighter still.
I’ve always worn some kind of steel toe boots. I’ve been lucky not to have had anything like that happen

Ouch, Richard! Hope you're able to rest up this weekend.

Thanks! I’ve barely moved since it happened. More of the same this weekend. Work will have to wait.
  • I Sympathise with you! It looks nasty. I had a "stupid" accident a couple of weeks back,

tried to remove a finger or two with my chainsaw, I was so VERY lucky, they are healed now, but I shudder to think what could have happened , and all because I was rushing, lost concentration for a few seconds and whoosh . Hope you get better soon .

That sounds nasty, how did that occur if you don’t mind me asking? The reason I started this thread was to hopefully stop others doing the same, so yours could be another lesson!
  • Had a near miss a few days ago with a full mixer toppling over as it had edged its way off the concrete plinth it was on, right into the barrow, into the block wall, hell of a wallop. Literally a split second before that I had told the labourer to go empty it, good job he wasn't in front of it when it came over!

While we're sharing - I have a legacy from rushing and not concentrating - rough ground - mower side chute discharge blocking with wet grass....lots of claret and the sound of snapping twigs as my fingers went a little too far on the 20th time of clearing the chute....

That was 2009 and I am still getting feeling back gradually. In cold weather the two fingers go white.....

Wow that must of took some recovery!!
It just proves silly mistakes can be costly!
      • PRO Supplier

Yup. Man-hours lost recovering, physio & follow up apts. Plus the pain when knocking my fingers on the indicator stalk in the van everytime I turned right because I couldn't bend my fingers for weeks......big impact from a 5 second mistake..!!!
