Arucaria Arucana advice

I need some advice on monkey puzzle tree, Just seen one thats old, tall well trimmed but going brown in different places, from the crown to low down, looks like its un well but i dont know, Do you?

  • Once bits of them go brown, they don't recover. Those branches are effectively dead, they are in the conifer division, however they do regenerate like yews and thujas. The fact that it has been "well trimmed" could have left it open to a pathogen of some sort. It'll just go on looking crap. I've heard that pollarding/coppicing does work with them, maybe give it a go. :o)

  • thanks for the advice, its was four year or more when the tree was pruned, removing lower branches looking like a 20foot or more flat ball shape!, im going back to do some garden work in the boarders, if i figure out how to up load photos i will stick them on, might help.
