But all too often, those quotes are rejected for being far higher than the customer expected. All because a celebrity gardener had done it for a third of that cost on the telly. To add insult to injury, the client feels that the landscaper is trying to rip them off.

Sadly, garden designers and landscapers can't influence what happens on telly land - but we can do our homework before committing to visit a potential client. In a nutshell, the landscaper uploads the client brief, “before” pictures and site survey details to the My Garden Design website. Clever programming has created an online garden design questionnaire which breaks the client brief down into a series of yes/no answers. When all information has been gathered, qualified garden designers will set to work to turn the information into a beautiful concept plan. The completed garden design will carry the landscaper’s own logo and contact details. And all at trade prices.

Now that I’ve got your interest, let me introduce myself. My name is Angela Lambert, (aka @Ladylawn) I spent many years working in the marketing department at Harrowden Turf but now work independently, helping landscaping related businesses to get more work.

One such business is My Garden Design. It’s the brain child of Paul Baker (Holland Landscapes). Together with Paul’s amazing website developer, we launched the business back in August 2020 and the website has been buzzing ever since. It occurred to me only this morning that I’ve been very remiss in not telling my colleagues on Landscape Juice about the site and so here I am, hoping to make amends.

So what‘s the story behind My Garden Design?

Paul actually had the idea for an online garden design service for landscapers a few years ago now – but you know what landscaping is like – he just didn’t have time to cross the t’s, dot the I’s and get the thing up and running until his “normal” work was stopped by COVID.

The aim of the business is to save you, the landscaper, time. To cut down on the number of pre-project site visits and give you an extra income stream.

Designs are priced for the trade and you can get an instant quote simply by typing in the dimensions of the garden. Straight away you’ll see the cost of the design and a recommended retail price which should cover the cost of site visits and give you a profit margin.

How does My Garden Design work?

The website is easy to use – it works from a PC, tablet, or smartphone, so you can upload information while you are onsite.

You, the landscaper, meet with your client and gather all of the information needed to create their perfect garden design. The site measurements, survey details and images of the plot and its surrounding area all get uploaded onto a project on the My Garden Design website.

There’s a comprehensive questionnaire to help you build the client brief and a whole host of free tools to make it easier for you to sell the idea of garden design to your clients.

You can build a project profile online for free – you only need to pay once you’re ready for the design to be created.

Each design is created by professional garden designers and double-checked by Paul Baker. Paul is an experienced landscaper and will instantly spot whether or not a design can be brought to life within the client’s build budget. The completed design will be emailed to you in around 3-4 weeks and will show only your company logo and contact details.

To access all of the tools offered on the MGD website, all you need to do is register online as a trade customer. There’s nothing to pay until you are ready to hit the ‘buy’ button. And you certainly won't be bombarded with sales calls or spam emails - we haven't got the time or the inclination to do all that!

Honestly – the best way to understand what My Garden Design has to offer is to go onto the website and take a look around.

If you have any questions, the best person to talk to is Paul Baker himself. Email hello@mygardendesign.co.uk or call 0333 577 9886

You’ll find the website here https://mygardendesign.co.uk/

I’d love to know what you think of it……

Is Landscape Gardening Ruining the Planet?https://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/is-landscape-gardening-ruining-the-planet2020-03-13T17:20:47.000Z2020-03-13T17:20:47.000ZFleur Voicehttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/FleurVoice

News that scientists are warning us that our planet will not take any more abuse has been increasingly circling over the last few years. There are various reasons for this – non-biodegradable materials are polluting the planet; industrial waste is being disposed of into rivers and greenhouse gasses are causing a change in climate. However, have you ever wondered about the environmental impact landscape gardening has on our environment?

Let’s go back to basics first of all and look at what landscape gardening entails as well as what its aims are. When landscaping an open space, a garden or an urban area, the main aim is to make it more presentable, more orderly, to make the space ornamental. Therefore, we would consider landscape gardening as the beautification of nature. Because beautification is a synonym of enhancement – this would suggest that landscape gardening aims to enhance an outdoor space. So, by enhancing the quality of our environment, we are enhancing the planet. Consequently, we are taking care of our environment.

So, by taking care of something and by investing in it, this will enhance its lifespan and will guarantee prosperity in the future. We could therefore argue that landscape gardening is environmentally sustainable as it preserves landscapes and green spaces for future generations.

Additionally, the presence of green spaces aids with well-being. Landscapes of care is a term used in Social Geography to define the efforts to deinstitutionalise spaces to make room for less invasive environments. It acknowledges the importance of the subject’s relationship with nature, and its caring effect it has on our wellbeing.

However, on the flip side, because landscaping essentially alters the rawness of nature by modifying it and transforming it into something that suits man’s taste and requirements, it could be viewed as a disruption of nature through its ‘enhancement’. It is ‘enhanced’ by Man’s standard, but the act of transforming something from its original state is disruptive in itself. Additionally, landscaping doesn’t always promote green space – it installs paving, gravel, water features and decking to name a few.

These elements may beautify, but they don’t enhance nature. Paving can cause flooding as it covers up the natural earth that would absorb excess moisture, and spaces that could promote green spaces are replaced with patios or decking. If we look at the broader picture – the materials used for landscape gardening are also harmful to the planet. The extraction of gravel and stone from sea-beds and mountainous areas is disruptive to the environment as is metal and concrete. In some respects, landscape gardening can also cause deforestation. Other aspects of landscape gardening can be highly polluting, too – the use of AstroTurf also contributes the impact landscape design has on the environment. Creating man-made fibres is polluting in itself through the products it requires to create it in the first place, but it isn’t recyclable either. All of these elements increase Landscaping’s carbon footprint.

Landscape gardening has both its positive and negative impacts. However, studies have shown that despite the modification of the ecosystem, the pollution and the deforestation it causes, its provision of contact with nature, environmental conservation, improved concern for natural spaces in urban environments has been found to outweigh its negative impact on biodiversity.

The LJN Big Interview with Westhill Garden & Landscaping Ltdhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/the-ljn-big-interview-with-westhill-garden-landscaping-ltd2019-10-10T20:13:37.000Z2019-10-10T20:13:37.000ZFleur Voicehttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/FleurVoice

Dan never knew that he would be orchestrating a ten-man-band five years ago when he packed in his internet sales job in favour of a mower and a van. But since, he has progressively grown his business thanks to acute attention to detail and very happy customers. From mowing lawns to now landscaping and designing, he is now taking on £20,000-scale jobs in Somerset and only laying quality products from manufacturers such as Stone Market and Millboard.

We asked Amanda, Westhill Garden & Landscaping Ltd’s Admin Director whether she thought that the horticultural industry had reached a plateau due to the decline in the housing market. She told me that in actual fact, the plummet in house prices is working in their favour. They have found that people are generally choosing to stay put and instead are investing in their houses which they often buy with a simple blanket garden and strip of decking.

We then proceeded to ask the current “big” economic question: How do you think Brexit will affect you, and how are you preparing for it?

Much to my surprise, Amanda informed me that they are expanding their business in anticipation for the country’s unknown future. They have recently employed an additional team member, Lucy, to take over much of Amanda’s admin duties to enable her to drive the business forward through extra marketing to widen their radius, to then expand their range of customers and the density of the projects on offer.

Do TV gardening shows inspire you or are they unrealistic?

TV shows can be inspiring but are normally unrealistic to the customers’ expectations of pricing. It would be nice to see budgets for projects mentioned on tv.

Modern large landscaping projects - design and build.

Can you offer any advice to others setting up in a similar business?

Be reliable, on time, good customer service and deliver a professional, tidy job. - the customer is always right .... (well, most of the time!) Most importantly, if you don't know how to do a project, walk away or seek advice or help from and experienced person.

The market features a host of landscaping equipment and what you require will depend on the layout and features of your landscape design. You can start with purchasing the basic tools to get started on your project.

A lawn mower is one of the of the first pieces of equipment you should acquire. There are many types of lawn mowers and in different sizes, too. Consider the size and the features of the landscape. A push lawn mower should be fine for small gardens while rider lawn mowers are ideal for larger areas.

For gardens with incredible amounts of fallen leaves during autumn, you may want to purchase a mulching lawn mower for faster leaf removal. There are electric and battery-powered types. If you have a compost pit, an ideal device is a leaf blower, which blows and vacuums fallen leaves.

Another essential piece of gear you may need to purchase is a hedge trimmer. Use string trimmers for areas in the garden that a lawn mower cannot reach. Look for affordable, lightweight electric hedge trimmers, which are very easy to use.

A chainsaw is also a necessary landscaping tool used for cutting trees and large branches. Electric chainsaws make trimming large trees quick and easy. It's also important to use sharp chainsaw chains that keep you cutting.

Other essential landscaping equipment supplies include:

Work Gloves

Pruning Saws

Loppers

Rakes

Secateurs

Garden Shears

Spades & Shovels

Trolleys

Strimmer Line

For all your landscaping equipment feel free to browse the Northern Arb Supplies website.

Examples of Professional Landscaping Equipmenthttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/examples-of-professional-landscaping-equipment2018-01-24T11:09:38.000Z2018-01-24T11:09:38.000ZNorthern Arb Supplieshttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/northern_arb_supplies

For the average landscaper or gardener, basic tools such as rakes, manual trimmers, spades, trowels and hoes would be required to work on a landscape. However, for the serious landscaper and for gardeners who work in establishments such as hotels, they would need more advanced equipment.

This is where professional landscaping equipment and garden hand tools come into play. These tools help landscapers and gardeners do their job faster so that they could cover large areas.

The most common piece of equipment for landscaping is the lawn mower. Cheaper lawn mowers are pushed around. However, there are expensive lawn mowers that can be ridden by a driver! This machine cuts grass quickly and evenly. This is particularly useful for large lawns and golf courses. The downside is that they emit fumes that are harmful to the environment.

Also commonly seen is the hedge trimmer. This tool consists of a small engine on one end. The engine powers a sharp, spinning blade at the other end of a long pole. As its name implies, this piece of equipment is primarily used to trim hedges evenly and quickly. However, it can also be used to cut tall grasses, weeds and soft branches.

A chainsaw is another well-used piece of equipment for landscapers. It is important to keep the chainsaw lubricated to increase the lifespan and longevity of the bar and chain. The best way to prolong your chainsaw's lifespan is to use tacky, anti-fling chainsaw oil which lubricates the engine and additionally increases the performance of the saw. Some landscapers and tree professionals prefer to use environmentally friendly oil - the solution to this is biodegradable chainsaw chain oil.

A lawn or a landscape can sometimes be covered with dead leaves, especially during autumn. While a rake can clear a small area, it is downright impossible to rake an area the size of a golf course. This is where a blower takes over. A blower pumps a powerful flow of air out of its nozzle which clears the area of leaves.

This equipment can certainly make life easier for a gardener or landscaper. However, since they consist of machinery, they should be handled with care. That means, safety in operating any one of these machines should be the first priority.

Northern Arb Supplies supply a wide range of landscaping equipment online.

Walled Gardenshttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/building-walled-gardens2017-05-16T19:55:57.000Z2017-05-16T19:55:57.000ZLandscape Juicehttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/LandscapeJuice

If you enjoy visiting National Trust stately homes, the chances are you’ll have had a walk around a walled garden, writes Vanessa Drew, Landscape Designer at Tobermore.

Historically this would have been constructed to create a microclimate in which to grow fruit, vegetables and flowers for use in the big house. Most keen gardeners would give anything to have a walled garden like this but it may remain out of reach. However, some people may not have noticed that they already have a walled garden. It may not be Sissinghurst, but a smaller version can still be used to create the same effect.

Many back gardens are bordered by a garage wall. The sun will heat up this wall during the day and the heat will radiate out at night. Against a wall, features such as espalier fruit trees, climbing plants, raspberries, peas and beans, etc. can be grown. The base of a wall is often in a rain shadow and the soil may contain builders rubble and hardcore from construction. In this case, the plants will require extra nutrition and moisture, so a wheelbarrow full of organic matter such as well rotted manure or garden compost can be added.

A lean-to greenhouse could also be used as a summer house to sit in even in winter. A wooden arbour can be positioned against a wall and is planted with climbers. This will act as a focal point in the garden as well as somewhere to sit and admire the scenery. An arbour is quite rustic so this could be combined with a pathway created with a traditional style paving product.

If digging down is too difficult, you could create a raised bed with walling products. Combined with coping stone along the top, this will also act as seating area. If you are building a raised bed against a wall you will need to tank the front of the existing wall to stop moisture from the soil seeping through. If that sounds like too much hard work, simply attaching wall planters will transform the space. These can be used to grow strawberries, herbs and salad leaves or summer bedding such as trailing lobelia and nasturtiums.

Green ‘living’ walls are very popular in European cities, but they require extensive irrigation and artificial fertiliser if they are to survive. Green wall systems are available to purchase but they are quite expensive although very impressive if successful. Plants such as sedum and saxifrage which have very shallow roots are perfect for this idea.

On close inspection you may notice that walling is a haven for wildlife. If you grow evergreen wall shrubs such as pyracantha, cotoneaster, ivy and honeysuckle, you will create nesting sites for small garden birds which are in decline. In addition to this you may notice the tiny nesting holes of solitary bees and mason bees – don’t panic – they are both stingless and totally harmless. Bumble bees like to hibernate in crevices in walls. They are becoming endangered due to people tidying their gardens too much and using pesticides, so they need all the help they can get. Pollinating insects are essential for a lot of crops and fruit trees so please try to encourage them in to your garden.

How did a small landscaping contractor from Southampton secure a huge contract (their largest contract to date) out of area and manage it you ask? Let’s start at the beginning…

Bath Rugby Club wanted some landscaping works completed at their training ground, Farleigh House. They approached Marshalls, as the leading product manufacturer in the UK who put forward three of their best award winning domestic contractors who were a part of their register.

The brief was to create a large car parking area, lay paths and create a paved awards atrium with steps (lots of them) for the rugby clubs training facilities situated at Farleigh House.

The products they chose to complete the project was Marshalls Antique Silver Sawn Sandstone plus step kits, Scoutmoor Setts for the paved areas and Tegula Drivesett Traditional kerbs.

It was imperative that the project met the highest standards of workmanship with a fantastic finish as the training facilities are accessed by the media to film live coverage and reports so it was the first impression given to fans and followers of Bath Rugby Club (no pressure!!)

The client’s main concern was attention to detail so although the contract was technically a commercial project they requested a high quality domestic installer and hence the project was secured.

The project was the largest we, as a company, had taken on to date and was a baptism of fire so to speak. The timeframe was anticipated to be 3-4 months but it actually took 7 months due to a particularly cold and snowy whereby the team stayed on site (camping in the grounds!) during the warmer months.

The weather we had and the extreme low temperatures prevented work from progressing as we had hoped. With the backing of Marshalls we suspended laying in these conditions where frost could cause problems with the materials and the laying course (particularly where frozen materials can swell in the presence of frost and so their use can give incorrect levels and problems with compaction).

To give an overview of the project and size - there were over 600 steps engineered and cast in concrete in four separate pours, 2,400+ cuts made on the steps alone and 2,000 square metres of paving laid.

How did we approach the project?

As it was the largest project we have ever installed and managed, we thought it wise to partner with an engineering firm. We chose a local firm that we had a good relationship with and had worked with on previous projects.

Having our own team of engineers proved to be a key decision and we worked alongside Bath Rugby Clubs resident architect and engineering team and had numerous team consultations. These were to ensure the project was progressing as planned, to ensure all teams were working cohesively on the project and to ensure best practice when setting out levels.

Their own team of groundworkers completed the excavation works and we then laid the products, cut, jointed and finished the project.

How were the levels set out?

Setting out the levels was achieved using total stations, laser levels and good old string lines. The engineers set out the levels three days ahead of us, the laying team, for kerb heights which were then laid and then the roadways were excavated down from the finished heights on the kerbs.

How was accuracy maintained?

Accuracy on the project was maintained via regular checks by the engineering team to ensure all works were within a 3mm tolerance. We worked to the clients’ drawings throughout and for more precise cuts on the paving used a wet cut bench saw (which gives a better finish).

The client chose to use all Marshalls products and so had their help and advice with any technical queries or product issues that arose.

Overall, the project was a learning curve for us as a small company but gave us the experience of working on a £250k+ contract, working with a high profile client and working on a prestigious project (and it’s great for the portfolio). Our ‘takeaways’ from the experience are; to have a good engineer beside you to enable a complete overview of a project of this scale and to see any problems before they arise. Secondly, know your numbers, if we had not worked day and night number crunching before submitting our quotation we could have put the company at risk. Finally, be prepared for delays out of your control (due to the great British weather) and be prepared to suspend works if necessary.

Thankfully we did pull the project off …

“Mike worked seamlessly with our architect to bring the design to life. He was able to fine tune the architectural design to ensure it worked well with the product, as the finish had to be both aesthetically pleasing and practical. After all, the players are incredibly important to us, and from a practical and safety perspective, it had to be spot on.” Lee Callow, Facilities Manager, Farleigh House

What makes concrete eco paving & walling ‘Eco’?https://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/what-makes-concrete-eco-paving-walling-eco2016-12-21T08:13:29.000Z2016-12-21T08:13:29.000ZLandscape Juicehttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/LandscapeJuice

As the construction industry becomes more and more focused on green, sustainable product solutions, it can often be ambiguous as to what exactly makes eco products ‘eco’. For instance, what differentiates concrete eco paving and walling products from standard concrete paving and walling products?

The answer is that concrete eco paving and walling products achieve their ‘eco’ status from the large percentage of recycled content they are comprised of. This involves waste concrete material, which usually comes from damaged or imperfect concrete product units that will go unused, undergoing a crushing process. This is a relatively simple procedure. As the waste material is crushed, it is condensed into recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) as a partial replacement for primary aggregates.

Following the removal of any contaminants via a screening process whereby the recycled concrete aggregate is graded based on the size and quality of the aggregates, the aggregates that pass are then used to form eco paving and walling products that promise an equal performance level and all the aesthetic detail and beauty of the standard product equivalents, but with valuable environmental benefits.

Tobermore, the world class paving and walling manufacturer, use this method to create their concrete eco products, and as a result, their eco paving products consist of no less than 64% of recycled content and their eco walling products consist of no less than 61% recycled content, thereby achieving a significantly reduced carbon footprint.

Like all Tobermore products, the company’s eco paving and walling ranges are also produced via a variety of green manufacturing methods. The 50 acre Tobermore factory at company headquarters in Northern Ireland features a rainwater harvesting system that allows products to be created with 70% recycled water, and the installation of solar panels on the factory roof and the recent addition of a 250KW wind turbine on site have permitted products to be produced with renewable electrical energy.

Gardens are simply the best options to do so, without having to venture out in long, risky, adventurous jungle-rides. Bought a beautiful new house and planning a garden or need to give a nice make-over to the existing garden? There are a lot of beautiful garden designs trending this year that will help you transform your outdoor space into beautiful hangouts for your friends and family to rejoice and cherish.

It is a good idea to keep your garden as an useful space all throughout the year, which can also be used as an extra room in your house where you can socialise while getting some fresh air and relaxing. While a lot of people across London invest heavily in recreating their outdoor spaces, here are some good ideas to catch up to, as we enlist for you the hottest garden design trends that are going to dominate 2016.

1. Outdoor Living Area

Using furniture in your garden has always been a popular practice but in 2016, it is going to witness a whole new level of innovations. Extended kitchen areas, fire-pits and also a stylish welcoming area to relax and enjoy are trending. Also installing a barbecue and seating area helps in giving your garden a fresh new look!

2. Natural Looking Furniture

This has been in trend for a few years now and is still going strong. Using furniture with natural look helps in giving your garden a Mediterranean feel. With the choice of plants or through the design of cushions and other accessories, you will always have scope to add different colours and patterns so that your garden looks unique.

3. Minimalist Design

The minimalist design has been in trend for indoors but in 2016 it is sure to spread to outdoor design as well. With monochrome palettes, one can create sophisticated and calm garden spaces. Grey shades can be used to give your garden a soothing feel. Additional features like stone water, slate and white flora can enhance the beauty of your garden.

4. Vegetable Plantation

As increasing numbers of people are looking for different ways to make their outdoor space more useful throughout the year, one trend which is catching up pretty fast is the vegetable plantation. It helps you in being partially self-sufficient and with proper strategy; you might avoid supermarkets altogether. Vegetables planted in your garden also assure that you are having healthy and natural, homegrown food.

The Garden Builders team will help you decide the best way to plant vegetable patches in your garden. Its award-winning team will exclusively work to help you out with finest of solutions and ideas.

5. Lighting Variety

It has been noticed that using lighting to enhance the garden beauty has picked up way faster. There have been a lot of notable innovations, such as LED bulbs and mobile app-controlled lighting systems which have helped in surging the sales of lighting products, especially for gardens. Garden owners are using greener solutions such as solar LEDs to highlight important trees, rare plants and other architectural features.

6. Different Materials

In 2016, you shall also witness a lot of variety in the material used for your garden design. Different texture and atmosphere help in redefining a space. Mixing wood with iron or steel with wicker can help you get results like never before.

7. Illusion See-Through Fencing

We know that both see-through and fencing are contradictory terms because fencing is for privacy but it is all about how well can one experiment. The slats can be placed at an angle which helps in giving a feel of see-through and also lets a lot of light come in.

8. Compactness

Dwarfs and compact plants are very helpful in managing good gardens in confined spaces. These plants have the same characteristics as bigger plants but they help in saving a lot of space. It also has the advantage of fewer management worries and easier cleaning. Compact hydrangeas and shrub roses are the best options for gardening purpose in restrictive spaces.

9. Pallet Furniture

This concept has got famous very recently. The innovation behind this concept is amazing and has managed to grab a lot of attention from across the world. These are even used in bars which are mostly handmade. It can indeed be an amazing moment for your guests when they come to know that your furniture has been crafted from pallets.

Conclusion

There are a lot of garden designs ideas and suggestions available over the internet. It is, however, very important to choose the most sustainable options of all. One also has to keep the budget in mind while designing the garden. If there is high expenditure involved while making the garden area then there are high chances of high maintenance expenses too in the future. Hence, make smart, well thought of and sustainable choices for your garden design in 2016!

There are a number of options available, but whatever you choose, it is important that you get a great value deal.

A great way to ensure that you are not paying more than you need to begins by ensuring you choose the best option for your waste. If you are only producing relatively small amounts of waste, you can consider a waste bag, or may be able to take the waste away yourself in a van or trailer. For jobs that produce larger amounts of waste, or that take place over several weeks, a skip may be a more suitable option.

Experts always advise consumers to request multiple quotes before deciding on a service provider. This couldn’t be more true in the waste industry, where it is important to compare like for like services from numerous providers. This will give you a better understanding of the going rates in your area, and you can use the lowest quote to negotiate a better deal with your preferred waste removal provider.

Disposing of waste can increase your costs and eat into your profits, so it is vital that you save money on your rubbish disposal. One of the best ways to save money is by reducing the amount of waste you need to throw away. In many circumstances, waste can be recycled, donated and even sold to third parties. This will reduce the amount of waste you have, and consequently reduce your disposal costs.

Saving money on your waste disposal can be extremely simple, and will save you a significant amount of money. If you choose a cheap skip provider or rubbish removal team, always ensure they are insured and have a waste carriers licence.

Water Conservation - How we can help the environment!https://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/water-conservation-how-we-can-help-the-environment2016-03-21T13:14:57.000Z2016-03-21T13:14:57.000ZMike Warmanhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/AuraLandscapes

Being a part of a professional body such as the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) means an obligation, as a company, to keep up to date with training and knowledge important to our industry.

Recently we improved our knowledge and offering to our customers by completing a certificate in water conservation. The Group continues to experience robust order intake alongside encouraging sales growth in its main end markets and overall trading momentum continues to be positive.

Sales to the Public Sector and Commercial end markets, which now represent approximately 66 per cent of Group sales, were up 11 per cent compared with the prior year period. Commercial work from Water Management, Street Furniture, Rail and Newbuild Housing continues to increase and the Group continues to outperform the market in these areas.

Sales to the Domestic end market, which represent approximately 29 per cent of Group sales, were up 3 per cent compared with the prior year period. The survey of domestic installers at the end of October 2015 revealed order books of 11.2 weeks (October 2014: 11.9 weeks) and compares with 12.0 weeks at the end of June 2015.

Adjusting for currency movements, revenues from the International business, representing approximately 5 per cent of Group sales, increased by 2 per cent in the eleven months ended 30 November 2015. Due to the adverse movement in exchange rates, however, this translated to a fall of 5 per cent once converted into sterling. The Group has made continued progress in developing the International business, and the opening of a sales office in Dubai, which will facilitate further sales growth in the Middle East, is now well advanced.

Continued performance improvement has been delivered in the smaller UK businesses and revenue for the eleven months ended 30 November 2015 was up 14 per cent. The smaller UK businesses include Street Furniture, Mineral Products and Stone Cladding. The turnaround in these smaller UK businesses in the year to date is ahead of our previous expectations with a consequent improvement in profitability of approximately £1m now expected for the current financial year.

People are turning to artificial grass for a number of reasons; whether that be for a low maintenance alternative to real turf, or simply because they want their grass to look green and pristine all year round.”

The company will be expanding their workforce, and are currently recruiting artificial grass installers to work for their team.
