As well as boasting exceptional academic results year on year, sport is central to life at Merchant Taylors’.

There are over 80 acres of magnificent playing fields with an additional 200 acres of estates providing outstanding opportunities for a wide range of sports including rugby, football, hockey and cricket. The school is a regional centre for England hockey and also hosts a number of elite sporting teams such as Middlesex County Cricket Club, Saracens and Wasps rugby academies and has previously catered for the Australian and South African national cricket teams.

The presence of such sporting teams surely is testament to the quality of pitches produced and maintained by Richard and his team of ten. With exceptionally high standards to adhere to and a multitude of sports surfaces to maintain, it is vital that the team has the most reliable and best performing grounds maintenance equipment in their armoury.

Therefore, as a long term user of Dennis equipment, Richard was delighted when he had the opportunity to bring in a range of brand new Dennis machines as part of a complete fleet renewal.

The new Dennis G860 cylinder mower is lightweight at just 166kg; easy to manoeuvre and comfortable to operate. The handlebar console houses the controls for - throttle, parking brake, roller drive and cutting cylinder drive. The mower also features a large diameter front roller with an adjustable scraper which has been designed for a precise height of cut control, giving an excellent finish on every occasion.

The Dennis G860 also features an interchangeable cassette system to assist with a wide range of tasks which gives Richard the ability to use the G860 across more than one sports pitch.

“We use the G860’s across all of our winter pitches and they also do our squares in the summer. With cricket squares you need to get across them fairly quickly and these mowers allow us to do just that. As one person cuts the square another person follows behind with the Sorrel Roller and opens the top up slightly to allow a little bit of air movement. It works really well. It has cut our algae and other bits on the surface down and allows a bit more drainage through the surface.

“The option of having all of the different cassettes is great. We use the Verti-Cutter, the Brush, the 8-Bladed Cylinder and the Sorrel Roller – so we are building an armoury of attachments too.”

With over 30 acres of lawns and other grass areas to maintain, Richard completed his Dennis line-up with the purchase of a Dennis G30D cylinder mower. Designed and built following the same concept as the Dennis G860, the G30D incorporates a large-diameter eight bladed cutting cylinder to cater for a wide range of uses to leave a precise cut.

“At the moment we have two big lawns at the school and another large grass area. We use the G30D for this work but it is also a good back-up mower for the sports pitches.

“Previously we were using a 26” mower for the lawns and it had a fairly small grass box so we were forever emptying it. Since changing to the G30D we are saving a significant amount of time and we are getting an incredible finish and presentation – something that is extremely important here at the school.”

For further information or a no obligation demonstration, please contact Dennis 01332 824 777 or visit www.dennisuk.com

Dennis G860 a game-changer for Wolveshttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/dennis-g860-a-game-changer-for-wolves2018-02-12T10:34:04.000Z2018-02-12T10:34:04.000ZFusion Mediahttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/FusionMedia

A new strategy devised by the owners of Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C, has resulted in the club purchasing three new Dennis G860 cylinder mowers.

It’s an exciting time for the West Midlands based club; when the new owners took control last year part of their strategy was to place a big emphasis on the style of football they wanted Wolves to play. As a result they were committed to investing in the surface at Molineux Stadium.

A state-of-the-art Desso Grassmaster hybrid pitch, which is used by top clubs across Europe, was installed shortly after the new owners’ arrival. Secondly, it was time to look at upgrading the turf maintenance machinery.

“When the option came to invest in new machinery, we jumped at the chance of going back to Dennis,” says Anthony Parker, deputy head groundsman. “Certainly for me, I’ve come from a private school background where I have been brought up on Dennis machines. We also used to use the Dennis Premier here on our old fibre elastic pitch. However, the Desso Grassmaster is renowned for being a bit firmer so we decided to go for the Dennis G860 when the new pitch was installed.”

Lightweight at just 166kg; it is easy to manoeuvre and comfortable to operate. The handlebar console houses the controls for - throttle, parking brake, roller drive and cutting cylinder drive. The mower also features a large diameter front roller with an adjustable scraper which has been designed for a precise height of cut control, giving an excellent finish on every occasion.

The Dennis G860 also features an interchangeable cassette system to assist with a wide range of tasks. With a simple one-minute changeover, users have the option of fitting thirteen different types of cassettes including scarifiers, verticutters, brushes, spikers, and slitters as well as six, eight or eleven bladed cutting cylinders.

“We purchased three G860’s with the full range of cassettes which gives us so much versatility,” says Anthony. “We use them on a daily basis. The verticutting unit is used quite regularly to clean out the surface and we really see the benefits from this. The brushes are a great option too and we use the machines at both the stadium and the training ground.

“With three mowers we now double cut on match days and the G860’s are perfect for presentation and getting a quality finish every time. They create the ideal pitch suitable for how the owners want the team to play.

“Dennis mowers are simply renowned for being a quality piece of kit and the equipment speaks for itself. They are really user friendly and since we’ve had them all of the team have been really impressed.”

For further information or a no obligation demonstration, please contact Dennis 01332 824 777 or visit www.dennisuk.com

Dennis Mowers integral for Stoke City FChttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/dennis-mowers-integral-for-stoke-city-fc2017-07-19T08:11:52.000Z2017-07-19T08:11:52.000ZFusion Mediahttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/FusionMedia

Both the Dennis G860 and the Dennis Premier play an integral role in maintaining Stoke City FC’s bet365 Stadium pitch and training ground, according to grounds manager Andy Jackson.

Having joined the club as an apprentice on a YTS scheme, Andy Jackson now oversees all of Stoke City FC’s grounds maintenance – which includes the pitch at the bet365 Stadium and the multitude of facilities at the Clayton Wood training ground. Andy has twelve members of staff across the two sites and they work together as one team. He insists that no-one should be dedicated to one specific site, claiming that it enables them to deal with every situation and ensures that not one person is limited to having knowledge of just one site.

“Personally I think this method works for us,” says Andy. “It provides the opportunity to work in different environments which improves their skill set and it also takes out the mundane task of just looking at one site all the time.”

“Obviously it is important that we’ve got the correct staff in place but it is absolutely essential that we have the right machinery and that everything is reliable.”

Andy has a fleet of Dennis mowers which sees four Premier’s and three G860’s based at the training ground, while the stadium has two G860’s.

“I feel that the Premier’s do a very good job on the soil based pitches,” he says. “We also use them on the Desso Grassmaster pitches if we need to firm them up a little bit - especially when we’ve been growing pitches in. We use the Premier in conjunction with the G860 and the two machines give us plenty of options.”

Fitted with either a powerful Honda Petrol or Kubota diesel engine, the Dennis Premier is available in 30” and 36” cutting widths. A three section rear roller and steering brakes make it easy to manoeuvre giving an excellent stripe pattern and rolling characteristics. Complete with a large diameter front roller with adjustable scraper, for precise height of cut control, the machine is easy to adjust on both sides with the use of a single spanner.

Equally impressive is the G860 which features an interchangeable cassette system, giving options to fit a variety of heads including scarifiers, verticutters, brushes, spikers, and slitters as well as 6, 8 or 11 bladed cutter cassettes. The operator can use the mower for a number of tasks with a simple one-minute changeover of cassettes.

“We have the Verti-Cutter cassette and the Brush as well as the cutting cassette,” says Andy. “We use the Verti-Cutter cassette at the stadium and at the training ground and use it quite intensively in April, May and then again in September or October. It’s a very effective tool and I find that we get really good results from using it after a match.”

“We also have the 6 blade and the 8 blade cutting cylinders – and which one we use purely depends on the density of the grass. So we might use the 6 bladed option in winter and for the first couple of cuts after we’ve grown a pitch in. If the density goes up then we might switch to the 8 bladed option so we have more cuts per square inch.”

The G860, weighing in at just 166kg, is renowned for its ease of use and groundsmen from grass roots to professional level have praised the machine for not only providing first-class results but also for its comfort.

“They are so easy to use – I like the fact they’ve got an open box at the front so I’m in control of everything I’m doing. We string cut so I can see the string, I can see the roller, I can see the blade, I can see the box in front of me - everything is visible at all times. The other thing for me is the setting - the adjustment of the height of cut is very simple yet effective. They also have low vibration levels which is great if you are using them for a long time like we do.”

“Each G860 probably does a distance each week from Stoke to Manchester and back. For a mower that is some mileage – they just keep going and going and reliability is key for me.”

“The most important thing is that the players have a good surface to play on every week - that the pitch is cut at the right height and that it is nice and flat. They just want the pitch to be 100% for every game and Dennis help us massively in doing that.”

“To be honest I don’t think I’d even look at a machine other than a Dennis. I get tremendous back-up from them and they are forward thinking. Personally I think they are the world’s best company in supplying mowers for groundsmen.”

For further information or a no obligation demonstration, please contact Dennis 01332 824 777 or visit www.dennisuk.com

Groundsman of the year Praises Dennis Mowershttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/groundsman-of-the-year-praises-dennis-mowers2016-08-03T14:29:21.000Z2016-08-03T14:29:21.000ZFusion Mediahttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/FusionMedia

The 2015/16 Sky Bet Championship Groundsman of the Season, Nathan Scarff, has praised his fleet of Dennis cylinder mowers.

As a leading British manufacturer of innovative professional grounds maintenance equipment, Dennis helps groundsmen, greenkeepers and gardeners all over the world to create their ultimate natural turf surface.

Nathan, head groundsman at the iPro Stadium – home to Derby County FC, is certainly an advocate of the company’s range of mowers.

“I’ve only really been using Dennis mowers for three or four years now, but immediately I fell in love with them.
Since opening in June 1999, the Principality Stadium (formerly known as the Millennium Stadium) has welcomed, on average, over 1.3 million visitors per year. It has played host to two Rugby World Cups including the final in 1999, three Wales Grand Slam successes in the RBS Six Nations, six FA Cup Finals and also witnessed a multitude of concerts with some of the world’s leading artists in the music industry.

Since embarking on his role twelve years ago, head groundsman Lee has seen most of these events take place. With an impressive CV, including roles at Fulham FC and Aston Villa FC, it is safe to say that he knows how to get the very best out of a playing surface. Therefore, when Lee started his position at the Principality Stadium he knew exactly what turf maintenance equipment he needed.

“I’ve been using Dennis mowers for as long as I can remember but when I first came here we didn’t have any - so I soon changed that. Obviously there were other machines available but I preferred the Dennis Premier machine which I had previously been using. Compared to what we originally had, the Dennis Premier’s quite simply provide a better cut and finish.”

The Dennis Premier is available in 30” and 36” cutting widths. Complete with a large diameter front roller with adjustable scraper, for precise height of cut control, the machine is easy to adjust on both sides with the use of a single spanner.

Lee purchased two Dennis Premier’s and soon added to his collection after seeing the Dennis G860 in action. Featuring an interchangeable cassette system, giving options to fit a variety of heads including scarifiers, verticutters, brushes, spikers, and slitters as well as 6 or 8 bladed cutter cassettes, the G860 is relied upon in stadium environments all over the world – and Lee hasn’t looked back since.

“I had heard a lot of good things about the G860 so I trialled one to see what it was like and I was really impressed. It’s basically a multitude of machines in one which is great and saves you a lot of time.”

“The best feature on the G860 is the flexibility it offers - you can simply change a cassette as opposed to buying a new machine. They are so reliable and seem to go forever. They also give a great cut, they are light and they leave an excellent stripe behind them.”

In fact, Lee thought that they were so good that he ended up purchasing three of them so that all three of the full-time grounds staff could have one each. Combined with their two Dennis Premier’s, Lee explained how the two machines perfectly complement one another in his pitch maintenance procedures.

“Leading up to a game, when we want to get a first class finish and stripe, we will introduce the Dennis G860’s. After starting with the G860’s we then take hardness readings with our Clegg hammer and if the pitch requires firming up a little bit more for any reason we use the Dennis Premier. Immediately after the game we then return to the G860 with the brush cassette to clear away any debris.”

“Aside from match day preparation we also use the G860 with the sorrel roller cassette in between games because it helps keep the surface open and prevents algae from forming. We even use it pre-season and prior to overseeding – just to get even more holes in the surface to let the seed in.”

“Overall it’s a fantastic piece of kit and is the perfect machine for us here.”

With the stadium pitch and three training pitches to look after, Michael and his team have their work cut out, so it is vital they have the correct equipment to meet the demands of the job.

“We used to have a triple mower which struggled in wet conditions. We had wheel spinning, the weight was an issue and it was even sinking in places. So we looked at numerous other options and Dennis came out on top. That was about eight years ago now. Since then we have used five of their machines and recently purchased another three,” said Michael.

Michael said the main reason he purchased the G860 was because of the machines weight. At just 166kg it is one of the lightest machines designed specifically for stadium pitch mowing on the market. Equally impressive is the G860’s versatility; with eleven quick changeover cassette options including scarifiers, verticutters, brushes, spikers, and slitters as well as 6 or 8 bladed cutter cassettes, many day-to-day maintenance tasks can easily be achieved.

The unique features of the G860 make it easy to see why the mower is the first choice for many top sporting venues around the world. With many televised sporting events being broadcasted live, the G860’s work is always under the spotlight; most notably so at the recent FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where the G860’s were selected to help prepare all twelve stadiums.

“The presentation that the G860 delivers is absolutely top draw. Like I say, I’ve used other machines before, but the G860 is brilliant; nothing else compares. We are on television most weeks and I can honestly say that our pitch always looks one of the best. It produces beautiful mowing stripes and aesthetically it just looks fantastic.

“We use the brush cassette to pick up all the debris after a match and also use the scarifier cassette two or three times a month just to dig the thatch out and rejuvenate the roots and shoots.”

Michael uses an eight bladed cutting cassette which he says gives a finer cut and sharper finish. As with any large amount of cutting required; it is imperative that the machine is comfortable to use and this is something which the G860 is renowned for. With low vibration handlebars also featuring an all-encompassing console which controls the throttle, park brake, switches and cutter clutch, operating a machine has never been easier.

“I would definitely recommend the G860 to any groundsman; the speed of cut, the weight, the interchangeable cassettes, the overall performance – I’m very impressed indeed,” said Michael.

Michael purchases all of his Dennis equipment from Campey Turf Care Systems.

For further information or a no obligation demonstration, please contact Dennis 01332 824 777 or visit www.dennisuk.com

For more news, reviews and insightful views, you can follow Dennis on Twitter @DennisMowers and like the company’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/DennisMowersUK.You can also view the latest Dennis videos by visiting www.youtube.com/DennisMowers
