Now rubbing shoulders with some of the finest teams in the country, the club has turned to Dennis to help keep the pitch in pristine condition.

Head Groundsman at Turf Moor, Paul Bradshaw, maintains the pitch with the help of two Dennis G860 professional mowers complete with a range of interchangeable cassettes which have recently been purchased from his local dealer GGM Groundscare.

Burnley F.C is just the latest top flight club to purchase the British manufactured mower. With a number of unique features and benefits, it is easy to see why the G860 is being selected as the number one mower by football’s elite.

The Dennis G860 has eleven quick changeover cassette options giving ultimate flexibility and a single power unit for many day-to-day maintenance tasks. It also features a large diameter front roller with an adjustable scraper which has been designed for a precise height of cut control, giving an excellent finish on every occasion.

Paul is no stranger to this machine. Prior to his role at Burnley, Paul plied his trade at Liverpool FC. It was there where he had his first encounter with the G860.

“I’ve used the Dennis G860 ever since I’ve been in football. At Liverpool they used Dennis machinery so during my time there I became really familiar with them. Then, when I started at Burnley we had a very old one with a six blade cutting cassette. I was already used to how they work, how to set them up – they are really lightweight and easy to handle.

“When we got promoted this season we decided to buy two new G860’s only this time we opted for the eight blade cutting cassette,” said Paul.

Burnley’s recent promotion is their second taste of premiership football. Five years ago, following relegation, a new Desso pitch was installed and Paul believes that the previous surface caused so many problems that it played a part in the club’s poor string of results.

Paul is keen to eliminate any such problems this season and on each match day, Paul and his team arrive at the stadium to cut it both ways to a cutting height of 25mm. It is then marked out and prepared by 11:30. It will be kept at this height until the leaf starts to 'thin out' and the height will be lifted slightly but timed well so that the players won’t notice any difference. The verti-cutter cassette is also used to clean up after games during March to November whilst the brush is used only occasionally during the winter.

“The best feature on the mower is its interchangeable cassettes – it just makes everything so easy. We wanted a mower that wasn’t just a mower and it’s great to have a machine that’s so versatile. The G860’s were at the top of my wish list and I wasn’t even considering anything else. The team are already familiar with them and it was just the natural choice,” said Paul.

For further information or a no obligation demonstration, please contact Dennis 01332 824 777 or visit www.dennisuk.com

For more news, reviews and insightful views, you can follow Dennis on Twitter @DennisMowers and like the company’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/DennisMowersUK.You can also view the latest Dennis videos by visiting www.youtube.com/DennisMowers

Dennis - The Jewel on the Crown At The Waterloohttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/dennis-the-jewel-on-the-crown-at-the-waterloo2014-11-03T11:36:02.000Z2014-11-03T11:36:02.000ZFusion Mediahttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/FusionMedia

The British Crown Green Bowling Association’s (BCGBA) Champion of Champion’s event, held at Waterloo Hotel, Blackpool last month, had a playing surface fit for the country’s best players thanks to the help of a Dennis FT510 mower and range of interchangeable cassettes.

The event brings together thirty-two of the major event winners from all over the country – each vying to become the champion of champions. Therefore it is imperative the playing surface is in pristine condition; something which unfortunately hasn’t always been the case in previous years.

“One of the biggest problems we had here was thatch and compaction. The Dennis FT510 mower really has improved the green. I’ve been speaking to some of the top players here today, and they’ve all said they have never played on the green when it’s been running as well as it has today. It’s actually caught a few of the players out because it’s playing so well!” said Mel Evans MBE, organiser of the event.

With an innovative interchangeable cassette system, the 510mm (20”) cylinder mower is proving to be the top choice for venues requiring more than just a mower. A range of 11 interchangeable cassettes means that one machine can be used for several key maintenance tasks including scarifying, verticutting or brushing; something which Mark Audin, bowls manager at the Waterloo hotel, particularly likes.

“What I like most about the Dennis FT510 is how easy it is to change the cassettes over; it’s literally a thirty second job. Prior to the FT510, we used to have a mower which used to take up to 5 or 10 minutes to change just the cutting cylinder, so it’s the machine’s ease of use and the quality of cut that I like most,” he said.
Mark uses the Dennis FT510 along with four cassettes; a ten-bladed cutting cylinder, sorrel roller, scarifier and verti-cutter; which Mark says has been “an absolute God-send.” Responsible for looking after the playing green and the various surroundings at the Waterloo Hotel, the introduction of the FT510 has certainly made his life that much easier. Mark is also pleased with the feedback he has received.

“All of the comments from the bowlers have been absolutely brilliant; there have been no negatives from anyone. The green has improved no end from last year and it’s all down to this machine.

“In my opinion, Dennis is the best in the market and I would advise anyone involved at a bowling club to get this machine.”

Dennis and SISIS are proud supporters of The British Crown Green Championship which is the flagship event for British Crown green bowling.

Cambridge United Choose Dennis to Maintain High Standardshttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/cambridge-united-choose-dennis-to-maintain-high-standards2014-10-14T13:27:58.000Z2014-10-14T13:27:58.000ZFusion Mediahttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/FusionMedia

Following the recent promotion from the Conference Premier to the Football League for the first time in nine years, Cambridge United FC have purchased a Dennis G860 professional mower complete with a range of interchangeable cassettes to maintain the high standards set by award winning head groundsman Ian Darler.

Following a recommendation from friend Gary Kemp, who is head groundsman at Norwich City that he should look at the Dennis machine, Ian took the decision to organise a demonstration.

“I’d been using a different manufacturer and machine for the past 20 years, but the weight of it was causing compaction issues and actually turned out to be double the weight of the Dennis G860,” explained Ian. “Gary knew I was on the look-out for a new mower and said that you won’t get better than Dennis and the G860. It’s used by the majority of groundsman in this country so we can’t all be wrong.”

After a career spanning 35 years and winning numerous groundsmanship awards whilst at Cambridge, Ian knows that presentation will be paramount now that the club has won promotion back to the Football League. “The Dennis machines have always been renowned for the quality of the stripes that they produce along with the flexibility that the interchangeable cassette system offers – something else that interested me as it enables me to carry out numerous tasks using just one machine – perfect for us here at Cambridge.”

Ian opted for the 8-blade cutting cylinder cassette for his new Dennis G860 because of the volume of cutting required along with the verti-cutter cassette, which according to Ian, used once a week will control thatch during the playing season. “Presentation is very important to me and using the G860 means I won’t have any worries. It’s solid, well-balanced, but light weight, and achieves excellent results.”

The Dennis G860 has six quick changeover cassette options giving ultimate flexibility and a single power unit for many day-to-day maintenance tasks including scarifying, verti-cutting, brushing, spiking and slitting as well as cutting. This versatility coupled with low ground pressure, at just 166kgs, and manoeuvrability makes the G860 the first choice for many top sporting venues around the world including World Cup Finals and European Championships.

“From the first time I spoke to Dennis to enquire about their mowers to today when they delivered it; I’ve received a first class service. It’s been a long time coming getting this machine due to funding but I couldn’t be happier,” said Ian.

Dennis a Premier Supplier to Tottenham Hotspurhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/dennis-a-premier-supplier-to-tottenham-hotspur2014-09-09T09:16:15.000Z2014-09-09T09:16:15.000ZFusion Mediahttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/FusionMedia

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club grounds manager Darren Baldwin considers Dennis as a key supplier of maintenance equipment for use at both White Hart Lane stadium and the club’s new state-of-the-art training complex in Enfield.

The award winning groundsman and his team of 27 grounds staff use a range of Dennis Premier cylinder mowers and G860 interchangeable cassette mowers, which allow a range of key maintenance tasks to be carried out, using just one power source.

Dennis Premier at Tottenham Hotspur FC 02Darren, who has been at Tottenham for 18 years and involved in the industry for 24 years, has had an association with Dennis for the past 20 years. He said: “One of the fundamental things for me is to be able to work with a number of key suppliers; especially our mowing machinery. We cut 50/50 with a range of ride-on and pedestrian machines at the training ground, but predominately we will use the Dennis Premier at White Hart Lane because there is not a better mower on the market that has the quality of cut and which produces the perfect stripe – imperative in today’s televised Barclays Premiership games.”

Fitted with either a powerful Honda Petrol or Kubota diesel engine, the Dennis Premier is available in 30” and 36” cutting widths. A 3 section rear roller and steering brakes make it easy to manoeuvre giving an excellent stripe pattern and rolling characteristics. The key reason for me choosing the Premier is its design - it has an excellent weight distribution. For me, another key feature is the fact that you can see the front roller whilst using the machine. For us at Tottenham, presentation is paramount and cutting with string lines you need to be able to see the front roller.”

“The G860 has been a fantastic addition to the Dennis fleet. The versatility of being able to change cassettes means that you have four machines in one which is fantastic. We have a cutting cylinder, a brush, a sorrel roller for opening up the first 5mm of our Desso Grass Master surface after games and in the height of the cutting season; the verticutter cassette – all in all, it’s a fantastic versatile machine.”

Built on the FT principle and with a cutting width of 34”, the Dennis G860 professional mower has an interchangeable cassette system, with one minute changeover, giving options to fit 6 different types of heads including scarifiers, verticutters, brushes, spikers, and slitters as well as 6 or 8 bladed cutter cassettes.Dennis Premier Tottenham Hotspur FC 01

“With the challenges that the modern day groundsman faces; I would thoroughly recommend both the Dennis Premier and the Dennis G860. The fact that the Premier comes in either a 30” or 36” cutting width just adds to their quality.”

For further information or a no obligation demonstration, please contact Dennis 01332 824 777 or visit www.dennisuk.com

For more news, reviews and insightful views, you can follow Dennis on Twitter @DennisMowers and like the company’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/DennisMowersUK. He is also looking to resume his teaching of the bagpipes and drums.

"I've seen some massive changes here at Howardson Ltd over the last twelve years and I've thoroughly enjoyed my time. Probably the biggest change I’ve seen was the acquisition of SISIS back in 2011. I’m very proud to have worked for a British manufacturer who has been a pioneer in the turfcare industry."

Commenting on his retirement Toby Clarke, sales manager at Dennis and SISIS said: "With his loyalty and passion for both Dennis and SISIS, Alan has played a key role in adding to the success of our products within his region. And that is when he has good reason to value his long loyalty to Dennis and in particular the G860.

“I felt that Dennis were pioneers in the market. They were the first company to bring out an interchangeable cassette mower and the G860 is a machine I have always trusted for its sheer quality and reliability,” says Mark who has just purchased a new machine. “I’ve been using the G860 for the nine years I’ve been head groundsman here, so when it came to choosing a new one, there was only going to be one choice – it had to be another Dennis G860.”

Mark who oversees four other members of staff at both the stadium and training ground says that a key decision in purchasing the new machines was ease of use and manoeuvrability for both himself and his groundstaff added to the different cassettes available to carry out key seasonal tasks using just one power source.

“We have the Verti-Cutter cassette to deal with thatch and lateral growth, brush cassette and obviously cutting cassettes which we have two for each machine. This means that when one goes off to be re-ground, we always have one we can use; keeping down-time down to a minimum. We use the eight-bladed cutting cylinder in the lead up to a home match including on the day of the match because they give an excellent presentation. After the match we swap the cassette to the brush to sweep any divots or debris up before verti-cutting. The machines are so simple to use – I didn’t want to have a machine that was difficult to set-up and that only I could use.”

The Dennis G860 has six quick changeover cassette options giving ultimate flexibility and a single power unit for many day-to-day maintenance tasks. This versatility coupled with low ground pressure, at just 166kgs, and manoeuvrability makes the G860 the first choice for many top sporting venues around the world including World Cup Finals and European Championships.

“We have always had a great service from Dennis, whether it is sales or servicing machines,” he says. “From my own personal experience; I’ve always preferred the G860 and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to any other groundsmen.”

Patrick was followed by Alistair Hollis, operational services manager for Bowls England who gave an update of the national governing body.

Next up was Mike Williamson of Sherriff Amenity who gave a technical presentation on seed and fertiliser including the correct formulations to use at different times of the year.

The morning session was concluded by Chris Sherriff, a bowling green contractor who gave his thoughts on the problems he had suffered during a thoroughly wet winter and how he has overcome them to get the greens ready for the start of the season.

After lunch, everyone went outside in the sunshine for a demonstration of a wide range of Dennis and SISIS turf maintenance machinery by the company’s field support team which included spikers, scarifiers and a range of mowers.

The day was brought to a close with the now infamous 'Turf Clinic' - a question and answer session, which proved to be quite lively with delegates getting the chance to ask the experts questions which they had about their greens.

Arthur Lindsey, the greenkeeper from Potton Bowls Club commented: “I was very happy to have the Dennis and SISIS seminar here at the club. The demonstration of all the machinery has given us a chance to see the latest turf maintenance equipment, whilst the presentations have been very interesting. The day has gone very well, the weather has been great and everyone has learnt something from being here.”

Roger Moore, customer manager at Dennis and SISIS, said "The aim of these seminars is to give groups of greenkeepers the latest information about how they can improve their playing surfaces. We’ve already had some positive feedback from attendees, who said they found the day very informative and interesting, which is pleasing to know that we have got the correct mix of technical presentations and also machinery demonstrations. We will shortly be announcing other seminars across various geographical locations in due course.”

For more news, reviews and insightful views, you can follow Dennis on Twitter @DennisMowers and SISIS @SISISMachinery. Two years ago responsibility for upkeep and development switched from the local council to the Cheriton Road Sportsground Trust.

Financial support from former Saga owner Roger De Haan meant a fresh start for the newly named Three Hills Sports Park, a huge upgrade in sports facilities and for the cricket club, a new pavilion and its own groundsman and equipment. It was a real springboard for getting back on to Kent’s home game itinerary.

Australian born Josh Bryen is now in his second season as the club’s groundsman and getting regular support and advice from key members of the Kent Cricket Board Groundsman’s Association, is an indication of how seriously the County regards the future of the Folkestone ground. The move to a higher status is already in motion with the staging of the Kent Second Eleven Twenty20 games later this season.

One of Josh’s first jobs last season was to assemble the correct set of turf maintenance machinery to nurture the impressive 25-strip square, re-laid as part of the redevelopment programme and the focal point for over 40 games a season.

The Trust gave him a machinery budget and he researched the market thoroughly, using the ECB advice document on equipment essentials for quality pitches at club cricket level as his template. His visit to a cricket seminar staged by Dennis and SISIS at the Essex Chelmsford ground last spring was what impressed him most and this was followed by pre-season demonstrations of their respective machines at the Folkestone ground.

Josh wanted to purchase a specific cricket wicket mower and chose the 22-inch Dennis Razor Ultra with 11-bladed cylinder to give a sharp, even cut. Three tractor-mounted machines from SISIS completed his armoury. For aeration work and scarifying he chose the multi-use Rotorake TM1000 with debris removing nylon brush, which Josh particularly finds useful ahead of cutting. For top-dressing he went for the Powaspred with rotating brush for even distribution, and for seeding, the Variseeder 1300 with studded seedbed roller.

“Buying all my cricket pitch maintenance equipment from a single source made good sense,” said Josh, who is also the club’s playing captain.

“One contact point for everything - help, advice, spares, servicing is a major benefit. Dennis and SISIS are more than just cricket-friendly - they really do know about the game and what is needed to get quality pitches.

“Now that the re-laid square is bedding down nicely and I’ve been using the new quartet of machines for a season and a bit, pitch quality is really on the move. Everyone that plays here, including the Trust, are really pleased. Being a wicket keeper I get a close-up of how a pitch is performing, and I can honestly say the machines we bought are making a telling difference.”

For more news, reviews and insightful views, you can follow Dennis on Twitter @DennisMowers and SISIS @SISISMachinery. It’s a daily job, always to 25mm, and two hours is the mean average per pitch for that man and machine ratio. We’ve been doing it this way since April on three new soil/sand rootzone pitches in the’ pro’s’ part of the training ground set-up.”

Things really changed recently; when in August work on the fourth pitch at the training ground was completed, switching it to a Desso construction with under-soil heating. The idea was to replicate Carrow Road conditions in every aspect. The mowers’ job is simply to get it and keep it playing and looking like the main stadium.

“I like the ‘no-wheel-marks’ benefit of the G860’s. They are lightweight at just 166kg and really come into their own as winter kicks in and conditions begin to get heavier.”

Gary has opted for the 8-blade cutting cylinder for each of his G860’s because of the volume of cutting needed. “Presentation is very important to us and using the G860 means we never have any worries. It’s solid, well-balanced, but light weight, and achieves excellent results. We also have the optional trailer seat, but walk-behind is preferred by the groundstaff, which speaks well for operational comfort.

“The feature I like the most is that it’s a three-in-one machine. There are plenty of choices available in terms of different cassettes – six and eight bladed cutting units, scarifier units, verti-cutter units, brush units, and a sorrel roller.”

Verticutting is a once a week job, and for the Carrow Road pitch, often as not, this a Monday straight after a weekend match – in Gary’s opinion the ideal time for such cutting and is a job that is necessary throughout the growing months. What about on the Desso surfaces? Gary says the G860 with Verti-cutter cassette fitted works just as well.

The four G860’s at Norwich City are supplied to the club by Ben Burgess Garden Equipment.

He is kept busy looking after the vast sports facilities at the university preparing surfaces for students and staff including football, rugby, American football, lacrosse, athletics, tennis, hockey and cricket.

“We can put any sports event on for anyone that asks. There is nothing that we can’t do. It’s important that we have the best turf maintenance machinery available because our students expect the best playing surface,” commented Charlie.

“I first saw the Razor Ultra at a dealer demonstration day a couple of years ago and was very impressed from the moment I saw it. I liked the weight at just 130kg and its ease-of-use and especially the tungsten tipped groomer which really takes care of lateral growth.

“Since we’ve been using it on our cricket wickets, it’s been superb and gives a very consistent finish. It has more blades on the cutting cylinder than our previous mower and does an excellent job at a faster speed.”

The Dennis Razor Ultra 560 has been developed to specifically meet the demands of cricket pitches as well as golf greens & tees and bowling greens. The machine has a 560mm (22”) cutting width and incorporates many key features including an 11 bladed cutting cylinder, ultra short wheelbase for undulating surfaces, tungsten tipped groomer, compact handle design for extra manoeuvrability, click height adjusters and stub free transport wheels for easy transport from site to site.

The university closes the cricket wickets at the end of August in order to produce good growth in preparation for the following year and the Razor Ultra has been used at the university for the past six months in order to maintain a high quality wicket.

Charlie has worked with a Dennis for over 15 years and sees the new purchase easily lasting ten years: “I will get ten years out of this machine, if not more. They are so well built and I see myself always using them.

“I’ve had brilliant service from Jason Briggs, the Area Sales Manager as well as Dennis. They are always helpful and extremely informative,” said Charlie.

To keep Stamford Bridge in perfect playing condition, the stadium's assistant head groundsman, Kevin Fowler, knew just what the club needed - a Dennis G860 professional mower complete with a range of interchangeable cassettes.

Kevin’s relationship with Dennis stretches back to 2003 when the club purchased their first G860 34” mower. “When we first saw the G860 we just loved the versatility of the interchangeable cassette system – one machine can complete a range of jobs. Its combination of size and flexibility make it very easy to handle and lightweight so it doesn’t damage the playing surface.”

Built on the FT principle the Dennis G860 professional mower has an interchangeable cassette system, with one minute changeover, giving options to fit 6 different types of heads including scarifiers, verticutters, brushes, spikers, and slitters as well as 6 or 8 bladed cutter cassettes and are used in high class arenas around the world.

Kevin says that it made sense to have the flexibility of working with a series of cassettes on one machine rather than purchase a series of machines. His range of cassettes include six and eight bladed cylinders, verti-cutter, soft bristle brush and a tungsten tipped verti-cutter, which cut down on not just purchase costs but also service costs.

“The ease-of-use and versatility to change cassettes in under a minute is probably its best feature. I also like the tungsten tipped verti-cutter cassette which is excellent at pulling out all the dead material and doesn’t allow thatch or organic matter to build up on the pitch – it’s like giving the pitch a mini renovation every time we use it. After a match we also use the brush to sweep up any debris laying on the surface.”

Renowned for their exceptional build quality, Kevin also says that he’s received an excellent service from Dennis every step of the way: “Robert Jack, our Area Sales Manager has been excellent. Nothing is ever too much trouble for him. The quality of the Dennis mowers we’ve used has always been exceptional and the results that we’ve had with them have been fantastic.

“We’ve set very high standards and want the best possible surface here at Stamford Bridge and that includes having the best maintenance equipment to look after it. In my opinion, there is no better machine for stadium use and Dennis is a key supplier for pedestrian machines here. We wouldn’t have used them for the past ten years if they weren’t the best football pitch mower on the market.”

For further information or a no obligation demonstration, please contact Dennis 01332 824 777 or visit www.dennisuk.com

For more news, reviews and insightful views, you can follow Dennis on Twitter @DennisMowersand like the company’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/DennisMowersUK. Its Pitch Advisory Team will inspect squares, outfields and machinery at any club or school looking to upgrade facilities or apply for grant funding.

“We’re always looking, through the groundsman’s association, to support cricket. We think that one of the much maligned roles of cricket clubs is the groundsman,” explains Chris. “Anything that we can do to support the groundsman, whether that is to give them a bit of knowledge or the opportunity to try top maintenance machines goes down very well.”

Both Dennis and SISIS have each been manufacturing machinery for cricket pitch preparation and maintenance for a considerable number of years and their commitment to helping groundsmen get the best possible playing surface is underlined by regular participation in conferences and seminars, not just in Surrey, but across the country. SISIS is well known to many cricket groundsmen for its range of hand and powered tools, notably for scarification, aeration, brushing and levelling tasks, and Dennis for its fine turf cylinder mowers, especially its interchangeable cassette system which allows a groundsman to complete key maintenance tasks such as cutting, spiking, verti-cutting, and slitting using a single power source.

“We’re very lucky to have a partnership with Dennis and SISIS. They are also extremely lightweight at just 166kgs and extremely easy to use. The cassettes are very quick to change – we can change from cutting to verti-cutting or brushing in quick time.”

With a rich heritage of producing professional mowers used at top sporting venues around the world including the World Cup finals and European Championships, Dennis is renowned with groundsmen looking for the perfect finish.

“The build quality of the G860 is of an extremely high standard. Dennis as a company has been excellent to work with and Ian Waddington, our area sales manager, has been extremely helpful. Three Dennis Premier models complete the line-up of pedestrian mowers that Alan and his team will use to keep the 330 acre park in pristine condition.

Located in the heart of England, near Burton-Upon-Trent, St. George’s Park is the home of the National Football Centre. After going through a process of segregating the main pitches, Alan and his team were looking to build up a fleet of quality pedestrian mowers to look after the elite level pitches: “The Dennis range gives us the flexibility to work with interchangeable cassettes. To have one machine that can deliver 5 or 6 different surface functions is excellent for us.” said Alan.

Built on the FT principle and with a cutting width of 34”, the Dennis G860 professional mower has an interchangeable cassette system, with one minute changeover, giving options to fit 6 different types of heads including scarifiers, verticutters, brushes, spikers, and slitters as well as 6 or 8 bladed cutter cassettes and are used in high class arenas around the world.

Fitted with a powerful Kubota petrol or diesel engine, the Dennis Premier is available in 30” and 36” cutting widths. A 3 section rear roller and steering brakes make it easy to manoeuvre giving an excellent stripe pattern and rolling characteristics. Complete with a large diameter front roller with adjustable scraper, for precise height of cut control, the machine is easy to adjust on both sides with the use of a single spanner.
Seven-time Groundsman of the Year during twelve seasons at his previous job at Ipswich Town FC, Alan has worked with every mower available. “I always felt that Dennis stole a march on other pedestrians. Going back into the early 1990’s when the first cassette model was launched I felt it was a fantastic machine. It just made perfect sense to have the flexibility of working with a series of cassettes when we were looking for a pedestrian mower. The weights of the machine are right. The quality of the Dennis range has always been exceptional and the results that we’ve had with them so far have been fantastic.”

When Alan became Head Groundsman at St George’s Park, it was important to work with key suppliers in the industry. It’s something that Alan had successfully implemented at Ipswich and after his switch to the FA centre; he wanted to bring the market leader for each maintenance task in. Alan sees each supplier as a specialist in their field and a good source of knowledge as and when required. “I have a very good working knowledge, but the expert tag comes from within these companies. I have these people on my advisory team so that I have the right council at different times of the year. It’s been hugely beneficial and it’s help put the project in a very good place,” explains Alan.

Why was Dennis chosen as a key supplier? Alan felt that it was an easy decision and described the Dennis pedestrian turf mowers as the market leader in terms of ease of use for the operator and the overall weights of each machine which are very low. “With the Dennis G860 range, it was the flexibility of operation. We had a desire to mow the elite pitches on a pedestrian programme, so it was a no-brainer that Dennis would be the supplier of that because the quality was there. A number of other top venues around the world were already using Dennis. I know most of the head groundsmen at these venues, so I spoke to the guys to find out how they were getting on with them. With us being the English FA, it was also a good fit that Dennis is a British Engineered product.”

Based just twenty miles away from the Dennis factory is a real bonus for Alan and is testament to the excellent service he has received from both the manufacturer and also his dealer, Campey Turfcare. All groundstaff have been to the factory and undergone bespoke training with the Dennis service staff which Alan says his team are already seeing the benefits of.

The Dennis and SISIS logos will give members and visitors direct links to their respective websites. There will be regularly updated blog pages on their equipment for pitch maintenance, also offering clubs and their groundsmen the opportunity to ask questions about it.

They will also support and be featured in the CCC newsletter, updating member clubs with news and stories about their machines and cricket pitch maintenance generally.

Expect to see more of both Dennis and SISIS at Conference events and matches too. They have each been involved in the business of cricket pitch preparation and maintenance since their respective formation and their commitment to helping groundsmen get the best possible playing surface is underlined by regular participation in conferences and seminars. SISIS is well known to many cricket groundsmen for its range of hand and powered tools, notably for scarification, aeration, brushing and leveling tasks: Dennis for its fine turf cylinder mowers, especially its interchangeable cassette system which allows a groundsman to complete key maintenance tasks such as cutting, spiking, verti-cutting, and slitting using a single mower.

Welcoming the involvement of the two groundscare machinery brands in CCC activities, Cricket Development Manager Gulfraz Riaz said: “Partnerships are an important part of the game of cricket and this is a excellent one. We are delighted to have two such respected names in cricket pitch maintenance involved in what we do. We value their support and this new line of communication to clubs is sure to be appreciated by their groundsmen. In late 2012, Peter along with club member Stephanie Johnson and Danny Ramirez from the local golf course, who look after the three bowling greens at the club, spoke with Joe Regan of nearby Laguna Beach Bowls Club. Joe had recently purchased a SISIS Rotorake MK5 and was raving about the playing characteristics of the green.

“We were looking to upgrade our maintenance machinery,” explained Peter, “Our old mower was nearly 30 years old so we spoke with Joe and extensively searched the internet for the best mower on the market. We were particularly interested in purchasing a mower which could also accommodate turf maintenance cassettes, which would give us one machine to carry out a range of tasks. The Dennis FT610 looked to be such a good quality mower.”

The Dennis FT610 professional mower, fitted with the innovative interchangeable cassette system is unrivalled as a mower and turf maintenance machine on all areas of fine turf. A cutting width of 24” and a range of 11 interchangeable cassettes mean that one machine can be used for several different jobs from de-thatching, verticutting or brushing.

The machine was sold by CS Trading, the USA distributors of Dennis Mowers. The prompt response to every email & telephone conversation with Ian Camp and his team convinced Long Beach Lawns Bowls Club that the product would be very well supported, taking away the fear of being the first user in America.

"When we researched the Dennis FT610 the mower came out on top of the operators' evaluations for ease of use, robustness and manoeuvrability. We were immediately impressed with the ease of swapping cassettes, giving a versatile machine that could improve the quality of our bowls green. Rather than having to manoeuvre several heavy machines around, our greenkeeping needs could be met with just one machine.”

Long Beach Lawns Bowls Club has a well-earned reputation for presenting the sport of lawn bowls to hundreds of people and for producing national champions. The club has been used by both divisional and national organizations for international and national competitions.

“It’s a great product and we get great support from CS Trading. I would highly recommend the Dennis FT610 to anyone looking after a bowling green.”

For further information or a no obligation demonstration, please contact CS Trading on (864) 843 5972or visit www.dennisuk.com.

For more news, reviews and insightful views, you can follow Dennis on Twitter @DennisMowers and like the company’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/DennisMowersUK. The finish they provide and their sturdiness and handling have impressed him from day one.

Andy has been a greenkeeper for over 30 years and by instinct prefers to cut fine turf by hand. He has always believed it is better to hand cut tees and greens, especially when conditions are softer, as they have been in this longest of winters just passed. He says for him minimising compaction is essential for good quality tees and consistent greens and his two Dennis mowers have really come into their own this spring, particularly his 20-inch cut FT510 powered by a Honda 5.5hp petrol engine.

A choice of up to 11 different cassettes including scarifiers, verticutters, brushes, spikers and slitters as well as 5 or 10 bladed cutting cylinders make it more than just a fine turf mower. It offers total fine turf care in a single unit, with a 25 second changeover of cassettes, which is a huge benefit to Andy.

Snow lingered on parts of the Brailsford course into late March, and even though they were then clear of it the tees and greens were much softer than usual. By fitting a sorrel roller cassette to the FT510 Andy aided aeration significantly and brought the ryegrass & fescue tees and fescue & annual meadow grass greens on a treat.

Regular spiking is part of the routine that Andy finds works well and his Dennis FT510 means he can do it using a single machine. At other times by attaching a scarifier cassette he gets the same benefit. “One machine for all my fine turf jobs. What could be better?” says Andy.

Now the growing season is at last here and cutting is the priority, it’s the simple hand adjustment of height in increments of 0.25mm on both his 22-inch cut Dennis Razor Ultra and FT510 that is a big bonus for Andy.

“I only have one assistant to help me keep the course in trim, so avoiding downtime for tool adjustment saves us a lot of time, letting us concentrate on the job in hand – producing a really fine finish on the tees and greens”. On the Razor Ultra, which will cut down to 1.5mm, Andy has the added benefit of a tungsten-tipped groomer to keep green speeds as he wants them by trimming lateral growth.

Servicing the Dennis mowers is minimal and straightforward. Andy says he does most of it himself, with the exception of annual blade grinding which is done at the nearby Dennis factory. “Nothing is too much trouble,” says Andy. “Dennis is one of those companies where you can rely on the strength and quality of the machines they make and the great service they provide.”

For further information or a no obligation demonstration, please contact Dennis 01332 824 777 or visit www.dennisuk.com

Latest Dennis and SISIS Bowls Seminar a Successhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/latest-dennis-and-sisis-bowls-seminar-a-success2013-04-03T10:46:14.000Z2013-04-03T10:46:14.000ZFusion Mediahttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/FusionMedia

Dennis & SISIS have concluded their spring 2013 series of educational events with the recent bowls seminar at Meole Brace Bowling Club in Shrewsbury. Committed to educating greenkeepers on how to maintain and look after bowling greens, the British manufacturer was pleased with the event which saw over 50 people attend the day which encompassed a mix of technical presentations and demonstrations ‘on the green’.

The programme for the day was started by Toby Clarke, the company’s Area Sales Manager, who welcomed delegates from around the county before handing over to Matt Gresty of Limagrain, one of the UK’s leading plant breeder and seed producers.

In his presentation, Matt discussed grass seed for fine turf surfaces, fertiliser application, germination, disease management and what to avoid when renovating a green before opening up the floor for a lively Q&A session. This was followed by an informative talk by Charles Henderson of Sports Agronomy Services (SAS) on measuring and identifying organic matter. Charles’s presentation centred on achieving quality greens on a more consistent basis stating that the more organic matter you have, the more prone to disease you will be.

“Clubs spend a considerable amount of money each year managing organic matter – sand dressing, renovations etc”, said Charles. It can also cut the playing season short. That is why managing organic matter is so important”.

The morning session was completed with an outside demonstration of Dennis and SISIS turf maintenance machinery by the company’s Field Support Team Andy Walker and Ben Lloyd. Despite the cold weather, a wide range of machinery which could be used on the green was shown including spikers, scarifiers and a range of mowers.
After lunch, Charles Henderson talked about successful renovations for bowling greens, from choosing a renovation type to the terminology which has recently grown and become confusing which can often lead people in the wrong direction when choosing a maintenance programme.

The day was concluded with a talk about machinery servicing from local Dennis and SISIS dealer Jim Clarke Machinery before the now infamous ‘Turf Clinic’ – a question and answer session.

“The day today has been extremely enjoyable and very informative. Looking after a bowling green as I do takes a lot of time, effort and money. It’s always good to find new ways of maintaining the green and improving it for the years to come”, said Mike Below from Montgomery Bowling Club.

Sentiments echoed by the Head Groundsman of Bridge North Bowling Club who said: “The seminars give me a lot of food for thought. They are put over in a very user-friendly manner”.

Further bowls and cricket seminars are planned for later this year.
