For what it's worth Richard, I found very little demand for on the spot card payments from customers. Maybe I didn't push it enough. It may depend on what your business is. Most customers seem more than happy with BACS transfer, cash or cheque - all of which are fine by me.
I took a punt on a card machine last year just to test the water and processed less on the machine in a year than it actually cost! So won't be going there again. I think there are other options on the market now that might be more cost effective. Others may have different stories too tell....
Hi James,
I must admit I did wonder. I will have the meeting with the rep just to get all the info.
Cheers,
Richard
Just be a bit careful with the rep Richard and make sure you read all of the small print.
I ended up in a bit of a dispute with my card machine provider (not Worldpay) over the length of contract when I tried to cancel the service. I felt that the rep had misrepresented the terms during the sales presentation and I subsequently found out that this is common practice as the reps are often not officially attached to the company. There was some bits of the small print that basically stated that in signing the contract I (the customer) was not relying on any information presented during the sales presentation.
Bit of a protracted back and forwards with me threatening legal action but all sorted in the end - but just be a bit wary about what you are being told.
I use world pay but mainly for the firewood side of the business due to the high turnover. There isn't any demand for it for the landscaping side of things. As already said cash/bacs is what i use for the landscaping side of things
Cost wise I pay £22 a month for a wireless terminal. 1.7% for credit cards and 20p ish for debit cards. Because of the turnover it works out cheaper than paypal/izettle etc.
Hope that helps
Thanks for all the info everyone.
