WhichVehicle ?

Hi all, i was having a think about changing my work vehicle (Mitsubishi L200) i have had one of these for the past few years and find them ok except a bit thirsty, i like the set up where i can tow a trailer and leave it when not in use, it also gives a good size and comfortable vehicle for everyday use. I have had vans but prefer a 4x4, any other members have views on vehicle types, i would be interested in hearing about Hi Lux, Jeep etc as a comparison and possibly give an insight for my next choice of bus, thanks

  • Hilux are expensive and personally think there over rated the old proper ones were good
  • Given the choice I'd probably go for a Ford Ranger, the new model is so much better thank the early models. And MPG is much better and they are a good spec across the range
  • If your looking at rangers make sure you check out the mazda bt50 as there slighly cheaper and are the same vehicle which are made in the same mazda plant
  • My thoughts would be, do you really need a 4x4? View are thirsty, have a small load space compared to a van. What sort work are you doing?

New Rangers are made in South Africa and are a brand new vehicle designed and built by Ford.

The previous generation was exactly the same as a Mazda BT50

Similar situation. My daily "works" drive is one of the last classic model L200 (a Warrior).

Can be bad on fuel when driven hard. I take my tailgate off for normal use to reduce its bad drag. Well equipped, it has served us well, especially for hauling stuff around and getting to sites in poor weather/snow over the last few years.

Needs replacing and have been looking at alternatives, initially coming back to the newer L200 with the later DFI engines as we have a dealer on our doorstep, but also want to look at some of the new(er) options.

  • I would imagine all the modern pickups would have roughly the same mpg so changing from an L200 to a Hilux isn't going to save you money on diesel.

An F150 is no good Gary - it's all about the F450 Superduty!

it makes the F150 look small - although I bet it is impossible to park!
