Whats in a name?

Getting calls in is the bain of my life. Cant quote for jobs with no calls!!

For many years now I have been playing around with different advertising (mainly with not much luck). In an attempt to drum up more business I was wondering if something as simple as a name might make a difference? No matter what advertising I do it never makes the phone ring so it got me wondering is there anything in a name. I have been trading under my surname (ie Holder Landscaping) for the past few years and a made up name before that (maple Landscaping). Cant say ive noticed any difference just wondering if any one else puts any stock in a name for advertising purposes?

What kind of advertising have you done?
How many years have you been going?
    What services do you offer?
If you can give some more specifics people will be able to help I'm sure
  • We have traded quite happily as 'C H Landscapes' for 40 years, so no I don't think a 'name' makes a lot of difference. Quality of work, competitive pricing, knowledge and personability, all go toward providing trust, which will lead to recommendations, which in turn cut the need to advertise. Providing and it is a BIG 'providing', there are enough potential customers locally, to sustain your business and the others in your area.

As Richard mentions, 'how many years have you been going?' as the first few can be tough to get up and running.

Don't think its the name - what's the advertising methods you've used, when, and how much. Eg putting a few hundred leaflets through doors will not do much. Putting thousands will get you customers.

  • I know many people knock it but yell.com has worked for me over the past few years. I meet with my account manager once a month and we can tailor my campaign to what I need driveways drainage etc can even pin point target market. Its not cheap but I have found the more spent the better the return. Don't know if I just have a good account manager but he's always giving positive feedback as to where we can improve our marketing and website info., obviously he's trying to up sell but not pushy. I got a call on the 23rd of December to quote for a driveway...
