What equipment do you use for small scale spraying?

Just passed my PA1/PA6a, and we were using these big Cooper Peglers knapsack sprayers, and mostly calibrating for minimum of 100 square metres. And it got me thinking, that I am most likely going to be doing spot treatment, of maybe 10 square metres maximum and in a way a 15 ltr knapsack does seem like overkill, as well as being huge and bulky and expensive.

So, what do you all use for smaller scale spraying? Do you also use seperate equipment for fungicides, insecticides etc? I get needing a longer lance, etc, but with triple rinsing etc is it really necessary to have maybe 4 different knapsacks for each thing?

Just curious what everyone does! I'm willing to invest money in this, I'm just trying to get an accurate picture of what I need before I think about buying equipment.

Thanks all

    Hi Ben,

Unless you are regularly changing products on the same job its not likely you will need a different sprayer for each type of pesticide.

I would invest in a tank cleaner, such as All Clear Extra - gets rid of residues for peace of mind.
If you don't think you will need a knapsack - try the CP MaxiPro - an 8L sprayer with interchangeable nozzles just like a normal knapsack..

      Hi Richard,

      Can they be calibrated?

        Hi Ben,

Yes bit more tricky - but adding a constant pressure valve it would be ok - You would have a constant or measurable output over the whole area as when pressure drops below 1 bar (yellow CPV) it shuts off...

You also have access to all the spares and accessories made by CP - spray shields, nozzles etc..

For spot spraying we us a CP1.5L minipro hand held sprayer. Just be careful not to apply too much. No real calibration other than we use the same strengh as if in a knapsack eg 20ml in 4L = 5ml in 1L.

The new stihl knapsacks are good value for using on small areas; only good with a single nozzle though and can be calibrated.
