Yep. Looks like they've been there a few years as well.
Either use Kurtail, or neat Glyph with the glove of death method. Ordinary spraying with Glyph won't work.
Thanks for the tips, everything has been there for a long time ! Proper little weed fest this one. Brambles having a rave in the back garden when I first started on it.
Thanks Chris that makes sense now, there was some in the drive growing thru the blocks since my last visit. Just not seen it look like this before.
Chris' right, Mare's/Horse Tail. They're very tough and have been around since time began ! They have a waxy coating which make it tricky for most weed killers. I have had success with Kurtail from Progreen with a single treatment. Don't try and dig them up !!
Yes, horsetail (equisetum)....... unfortunately for your customer
Spray when its green, the 'leaves' have opened and its a good 6 inches high - as Nick says, any disturbance will prompt a flurry of growth. It can be a battle of attrition but persistence pays off...

Hi Joe,
Horsetail spreads via the rhizomes - in moist, clay-loam soil it spreads like wildfire with growth recorded in the metres per year but frankly it will spread in most conditions...
Don't cut the initial spear because the tip bears the spores and chopping can spread them too...
re: the grass we are aware of trials of products to kill horsetail without killing the grass - if you want to give me a ring I can talk through the options....

For Horses Tail growing in a lawn, we have a good product that is also selective, so it will not harm the grass. It's called Broadshot and comes in a 1L or 5L container and can be found by clicking the following link.

Highly recommend Broadshot, picture is a few days after application. Okay this in on a driveway but have also used it on lawns with no impact to the grass sward
