Wet and mucky sites: solutions?

The bills still need to be paid in winter and I nor my team are ever keen on shying away from a bit of rain.  At this time of year though we can get a hell of a lot of water coming down from the sky and it can make work difficult.  Heavy wheel-barrows and constant tramping feet over bare clayish ground creates a hell of a mess.

We use scaffold boards and assorted sheets of plywood etc to try and keep the ground stable(ish) but someone in the construction industry had suggested (a couple of years ago) I invest in a matting material which helps to stabilise the ground to allow heavy work to be done, and then for that area to be dressed into its final mode easily - eg we put in 15 Tons of fresh screened topsoil into one of our projects last week while the ground was fairly waterlogged and this has created a quicksand type scenario which is a bit of a problem.

I wondered if anybody had used any products such as this (or similar): source Tenax Shop

And if they had been any good.

Cheers

  • When I worked in the events industry, we used a range of products from Eve Trakway. We hired in, but I believe that you can buy thier stuff too. They do temporary surfaces for a whole range of pedestrian and vehicle applications, and we built the hire cost into the contract. They were, as I recall, very reasonable. Their web site shows the (now much bigger) range, but no prices, so I'd suggest ringing them to see if its a viable option. I'd be interested in their response - I always found them very helpful.

  • I am sure that I can provide material that will do the job at lower costs- offering direct prices. I never thought it is a big market but with all the rain now I can see the situation.

from 8.00-15.00 pound a metre a tough roll of liner made from recycled plastic- must be easier than boards.

It will spread the weight, will not compact the soil and will last long. If it helps anyone call me 01630 673860

Ofer - how thick is the plastic and are we talking sheets or rolls here? I may be interested.
