  • to be honest, you'd do better to spray the grass with a selective weedkiller rather than weed & feed........ it always seems much more effective.
  • Hi Steve

For all our commercial work we use Scotts clean run pro
    http://www.amenity.co.uk/webstore/index.php?cPath=1081_1082_1140
it stays green for months and unlike any of the domestic treatments it won't make the lawn bolt.
We use a broadcast spreader to apply it but be careful it's easy to scorch if not used correctly.

    Hope this helps m8
  • Most of my lawns I would feed first then spot spray for weeds a week or two later however I did use Scotts last year and got some very good results as a combined feed and weed.

  • Hi guys, i'm still looking into exactly which chemicals/fertilizers are going to be right for a couple of my customers lawns. The problem I have with two of them in particular is that one is 1000m2 but littered with flower beds, boarders, trees and is in three very awkward shaped sections. The other one is already in very good condition but the customer would like it greener.

I've had some excellent advice from a couple of you on here already but i'm still concerned about getting a nice even coverage on these lawns. I'm now starting to look at only using my knapsack sprayer for these lawns as it's got to be the best way to ensure an even coverage compared to my scotts drop spreader.

Paul, you mentioned you use the scotts greensmaster with a cup of iron sulphate, what time of year are you applying the iron sulphate?. Also can the greensmaster be tank mixed with a selective?.

  • Just a quick up date on the lawn I mentioned above that was littered with flower beds and boarders and all sorts of irregular shapes. I decided to go with an organic fertilizer as I felt it would be less harmful when it inevitably ended up in the flower beds and boarders. I also decided to buy the earthway ev-n-spread 2050p broadcast spreader which after first use seems to be great.

So that was my first bit of lawn care and now i'm just going to wait with my fingers crossed for some good results and follow it up with a selective application. I'm interested to see what tips and methods you guys have for lawn care on these awkward type lawns i.e, what do you find to be the most effective way of working around the lawns?.

I make 3 aplications, Spring mid summer and autumn with iron sulphate tank mixed in each, it keeps moss controlled and gives a very nice green up.

Re tank mixing with selective, I have never tried this so can't advise, I would email or phone scotts technical support and ask them.

  • Thanks Paul, ye i'm going to use a spray dye, with the spreaders do you tend to operate from end to end or follow the shape of the headland?. The problem with going end to end I found with the irregular garden full of flower beds was that you always seemed to meet in certain areas but miss others, does that make any sense?.

Also just on the calibration note, i've just picked up some polijet nozzles from the Agritech website and using the calibration chart on the website i've run my sprayer with the red nozzle and got an output of 2.6 litres per min at 1.5 bar. I need to put my chemical needs to be put down at 200 - 1000 l/ha although the label says to put 20ml in 10 litres of water for 100 m2. So basically now I need to find a walking pace over a 100 m to achieve this??.Does this make any sense? sorry my maths is terrible and all the various calibration sheets I have are doing my head in!!!. Any help would be really appreciated.

The product I'm using is mascot crossbar if this helps.

  • What is the spray width of the nozzles you're using at the height you'll be holding it at?
