On the other hand it becomes a magnet for thieves either for the truck itself or what's in it, or what's in you yard lockup (if you have one) as all they need do is follow you and then take their time after you've gone home
I'm undecided about this summer as I'm changing trucks and don't know if I sign write again or not as I now have said lockup with lots of stuff in it.
Sorry maybe that doesn't help you!
there is the magnetic option so it can be removed or put on another van etc.
This has been covered so many times?
The concensus has always been that you need branding in order to look professional. That's your van, your uniforms, your letter-head: every time your business is seen in public it's an advert.
I don't want enquiries from my van so there's no contact details on it, but a basic logo is essential. Most of my clients require sign-written vans, and that's for a good reason.
Hi Richard,
I've normally got enough work, and new work comes from existing clients, or their recommendations.
When I had a phone number on the van I had to deal with going home every night to return calls. Almost all were either for work I don't do, or people just asking for a cheap hourly rate.
I need the van to say who I am, and project a professional image, but not to suggest calling me to waste my time. I leave the cheapest local rate competition to others, and aim for the market I know I can work best in, and get a decent return from
Even if you manage to get them round to paying your rate they always pick fault with everything they can as they still don't think you're worth it.
A small one from today was great! I went and put new hinges on someone's shed and as I was leaving he asked how much (£20 plus bits). He says but you were only here 20 minutes I said true but I went shopping for the hinges that's half an hour there. He said ok grudgingly then as I was leaving he said why don't you take these broken fence panels away!
To which I said I would but you won't want to pay the price for disposal. I had to walk away at that point!!
I don't advertise anywhere at the moment apart from the truck. But I'm having a website built at the moment which should come online soon:)
Still not sure about new truck and sign writing leaning towards yes at the minute.
Thanks everyone...
We sign write all our vehicles and get a lot of enquires from people saying they have seen our vans, we were also approached by a big south east contractor to do subbie work as their contracts manager said he kept seeing us about.
