They don't make them like they used to!

Clearing out the office yesterday and found this old price list from 1989. Page 2 makes particularly interesting reading as the most basic 4 wheel push mower back then, even without a grass box had a price tag of over £200 and that is at a VAT rate of 15%. Given that your hourly rate back then was probably about half todays figures it shows how much less we invest in kit in real terms. 

People are often wishing for machines built like they we used to have but the manufacturers have worked hard to lower prices at the expense of longevity in many cases. 

Out of interest average UK earnings back then were apparently £13750 and base rate was a staggering 14%.

Makes you wonder how anyone made any money!
