Tanaka Strimmer

Hi All,

My Tanaka 270 strimmer has run great all last season and up to present

Today i noticed it seems to be revving too high on tickover and i can't slow it down with tickover adjustment screw -

Any ideas

  • Update------ did a general exterior clean and check of carb and air filter .

Noticed slight movement in carb body which turned out to be loose bolts connecting the spacer to engine body.

Quick nip up of bolts and jobs a good un ... now running sweet as a nut!!

I'm surprised it worked at all with a loose carb!!
Nice to have an easy fix now and then unlike my big toro mower but that's another story!!
      • I think it was just loose enough so that there was air being drawn in hence the higher revs??

  • I just bought a Tanaka long reach hedge cutter a few weeks ago and I am very pleased with it. It's a lot lighter than the Stihl and Husqvarna ones. I usually buy Stihl products but opted for this one as it's cheaper by £150 and I will only be using it for 'out of reach' hedges and for approximately 5 hours annually between all my customers's hedges.
    • I have been running 2 Tanaka 270 strimmers and their leaf blower for the last 3 years without any problems.

They have very good power to weight ratio

The problem i have just encountered with the carb you could argue was down to basic maintenance??

At the rate your going to use your  LR cutter you should get years of trouble free use

      • Hopefully last until I retire!

If your only using so few hours on hedgecutter try running it on aspen as it does not go stale
      • Yeah, I have been using Aspen2 for nearly 2 years on all my 2 stroke kit. I also used the Stihl equivalent one too last time. Cheers.
