Hi Gareth, North Birmingham and South Staffs. Theft is quite prevalent but I've been lucky for years, until now. What area are you ?
If I had a van I think I’d be too lazy and leave it in overnight and it would be gone before too long!
I use a van vault that is bolted to the floor in the back of my van.
I can highly recommend them to anyone who wants to up security of tools.
Hope this helps.
It was £260 for the vault and £30 to have it bolted down properly.
Thinking of getting a van vault for the shed! Police warned me to watch out because the thieves know I'll need to replace the tools. Just have to try and slow them up until the burglary turns out harder work than getting a proper job!
I had all my kit stolen a year back, since then I have fitted metal eyes to the van interior and everything is kept cabled and padlocked insitu. Decent padlocks as well, keyed alike so only one key for all, makes life far easier.
Incidentally, mine was also found to be unlocked electronically!
Its obviously not fool proof, but helps stop and/or slow down the smash and grab type thefts which are most common, increasing the chances of them being seen/heard
Also, deadlocks, that said i have them fitted already, but they still managed to lever the side door past it! Apparently there are newer more secure ones now.
And a bit of advice i got from someone else, as and when the van is parked on the street, always have the cargo door facing the pavement, that way they cant pull up next to you and hand stuff from one van to another in quick succession! and if you absolutely have to take the van to a supermarket car park, always park it in the busiest area, don't put in open space for the convenience of parking quicker/easier!
