Stihl knapsacks are a decent mid-range knapsack - some nice design elements - its actually made by a German company called Mesto - fairly new to Uk market I believe so not sure how reliable or what spares situation is like.

Depending on your needs one of the Cooper Pegler models at £115-125 may be a better investment long term rather than pay £25-30 every 6 months? Loads of spares and accessories available...

FYI: sprayer testing - there is now a legal requirement to get boom sprayers (tractor/ quads, etc) tested at regular intervals - nothing yet for knapsacks.

      Hi Louise,

Thanks for all the info, something to think about. I noticed that stihl had a knapsack but couldn't really find a lot of info or people that have used them. Now i know why!

Hi Daniel, I don't do spraying as we are heading towards being fully Eco, however I do have a Stihl sprayer, I purchased it for watering large green houses full of seedlings, it's absolutely fine for doing what I brought it for however I think if you want to use it for weed killing you may get annoyed with the fact that when you take your fingers off the trigger the sprayer continues to spray for a good 10 seconds or so after release, also it leaks everywhere, I actually took mine back to Stihl who replaced the lance 3 times and it still leaks water all over the greenhouse floor when it just sits there... Like I said for us it's fine, but I guess for doing what it's actually designed to do I would invest in a better knapsack mate...

Thanks for the Feedback Harry. It does make me think. Can anyone recommend a medium range one? as i would hate to spend £100+ and break it.

          I have 5 different knapsacks.

I bought a Berthund Vemorel last year from Agrigem

Was that impressed with it I bought another one this year.

I like the fact the frame sits off your back making them much more comfortable if your using them for longer periods, also if you get a splash when filling it up it sits off your back. They are very well padded

  • We bought a stihl knapsack a few months ago to give it a try but I have to agree with Harry's comment. It continues to spray for 10 seconds after releasing tge trigger, It's not great!
  • I have a 5l Stihl knapsack. My dealer gets spares next day for me. Maintenance is really simple on the 5l model. No issues with spraying after releasing trigger unless there is air in the system.

Also if your system pressure is low you will also get similar results common on all mid range sprayers unless you have a constant pressure valve
  • We have used a Cooper Pegler for weedkiller, iron, fertilisers, and never suffered a product failure in 4 years. Well worth the £150 investment with occasional filter clean and replacement nozzle only maintenance undertaken.
    • As with all things, you get what you pay for. Cooper Pegler are experts at producing excellent quality products and have years of experience to get it right. I've 2 knapsack sprayers, 15 years old, still going strong and never bought a single spare part for them other than a shoulder strap. Just like I wouldn't go to Cooper Pegler to buy a chainsaw, I wouldn't get a sprayer from Stihl.

We've had a couple of CP knapsacks for 10 years + and as long as you clean them thoroughly after using the likes of iron or kurtail they'll last years. Berthoud will be the same.
