Hi Folks.

Does anyone else use a similar strimmer head (mine's a Stihl FS38) that has problems re-loading the line. I have the recurring issue that when rotating the spool to load it keeps jamming/seizing. Sometime brute force can get me past it but other times i have to uncoil whats loaded and start again. Its not to do with loading to much line as can happen at the beginning of re- loading. Can be very frustrating. Any suggestions how to combat this??.

Whilst talking about strimmers, i currently use Diamond Edge strimmer line (2.0mm). Is there anything about that is better that i should try instead??

I've got one of those on an fa40 (very rarely used) and I always take it to bits to reload as I did not know it was a twist one! So I know that's works. Not that that helps much though:)

To add when I say always I mean once I think as I never got on well with it!
  • Can't comment on other strimmer line as I always buy Stihl stuff, but I buy it in the massive cakes so price is very reasonable.

All I can say is I find taking your time when winding in the strimmer line and keeping it neat does help when it comes to bumping it out, also means you get the maximum in the head.

Thing is with those winding heads how do you get it to go in neat? You've got no control at all.
      • I just take the center out, wind the one piece around then clip in place, wind second in the place and poke each end carefully through the eyelets as I put it back together. Does take a bit of getting used to!

That's what I do but this is one of those stupid(imo) ones that you push the line through the middle then twist it until it's inside.
  • ive just blasted it with a bit of WD40 which seems to have helped but could just be a fluke!!! lol

Do you soak your line in water before use?
I don't do it but people say it help it to not break so easily I wonder if it would help this too?
      • Yes, i do that. Sits all rolled up in a bucket of water in footwell of van

I take it you don't have problems with the head flying off while using it?
