Stihl Cordless slot in or back pack batteries?

I know quite a few of you are using the Stihl cordless stuff now. I am looking to get the HLA 65 and BGA 100 now, and add a standard hedge trimmer and strimmer later in the year.

I am aware the BGA 100 will eat battery fast, but I am thinking I will upgrade to a backpack battery before next Autumn when it will get the heaviest use.

I was thinking of getting a couple of AP300's and seeing seeing how it goes. Would any recommend just going for the backpack straight off?

And finally has anybody found the machines unbalanced when using the lighter dummy batteries in machines designed to take the slot-ins?

Thanks

Hi Nick, we have the blower, strimmer, hedge cutters and long reach hedge cutters and they are great!  The blower and strimmer eat batteries so if you can, get the fast charger and take it out with you.  The hedge cutters are great with an AP200 and have lasted over 5 hours of fairly constant hedge cutting.

Budget prevented me from getting a backpack initailly but I would imagine they are a bit warm to wear in the summer and I don't believe (correct me if I'm wrong) they are particulaly waterproof as they come with a plastic cover.

We have back pack and one ap300. The back pack is excellent for the blower and lasts a couple of days in autumn. It has a rain cover and we've never had issues with it getting wet.

You might manage till autumn without it but I would imagine it's necessary for the strimmer unless you have lots of smaller batteries.

The long reach and short reach are ok with the adapter balance wise but the long reach is very well balanced with a battery it in.
  • Thank you both for your thoughts.

The newest additions to the cordless range seem to be designed for the back pack, but my local dealer says he does not know of any plans for new long reach in the near future.

So I think I'll probably go with a couple of small batteries initially as it's the it's longreach I'll be using for longer periods of time.

    Cheers,
    Nick
