I would say this is almost certainly it. Or a bolt loose on the av mounts.
Should have no problem running on new oil the grades of oil havn't changed. Does it state 25:1? If so you should be running it on 50:1 now as the engines need for lubrication hasn't changed much, the oil being better is what has allowed 2t mix's to be weaker.
Our 18month old Stihl blower, did something very similar, then made a rather nasty noise, before seizing. Investigation showed that an engine bearing had failed, casting 4 ball bearings into the engine! Although out of warranty, our dealer (Ernest Doe) sent the box of bits to Stihl, who rebuilt the engine with new cylinder, piston and bearings FOC. It is now like a new machine.
At least 10 years old & starts fine. Has it got anti vibe bushes ?
Does anyone have a link to a parts diagram ?
Invariably, if you type in the model + parts...... in this case, "Stihl BG55 parts" into Google images, an appropriate diagram will come up. Then, if you "visit site"...... you'll often find more details
Yes I tried that. Just discovered that the BG55 doesn't have anti vibe mounts.
This is as they're intended for the domestic market with low use. Again, search Google and you'll find the part.. http://www.lsengineers.co.uk/flywheel-stihl-part-no-4140-400-1200.h... for about £65 though as its an old machine, I'd be tempted to replace it with a better model... I use an HS86. LS engineers are excellent and have used them in the past. The damaged fan is highly likely to be causing the problem....... a cheap solution is to balance the flywheel by removing/adjusting a fin from the opposite side of the damaged one!
