Advice please on getting Stihl to honour warranty work on my hedge trimmer. The machine has been in and out of shop 3 or 4 times since purchase. The first few being within warranty and for the same issues reoccurring. It had a new motor on the last visit and now it apparently needs a new motor again. The machine itself is out of warranty but the motor is less than a year old and has had a few months of light use at best.Has anyone else had issues with this model?I'm not convinced it's fit for purpose or maybe I just had a dodgy unit but feel either way stihl should be fixing the machine for me as it's clear it has an ongoing issues.Does anyone have any experience of how to achieve this/who to contact?

  • the motor doesn't seem to be an issue with ours but we do have a problem where the cam lug jumps out of the bottom of the blade which is wearing the blades unnecessarily. A zip tie is being used as a spacer to keep it from jumping out.

I was very happy with the stihl battery gear to start with but it doesn't feel like it's going to last. We are currently looking at alternatives.

I am extremely happy with my Pellenc hedge trimmer. It's been faultless in 2 years.
      • Do you find having the wire attached annoying with the Pellenc? That's what I like about the stihl ones is that I can put the long reach down and pick up the short reach without having to unplug and plug back in.

I don't mind as I prefer having most of the weight on my back and the hedge cutter is so nimble and manoeuvrable. I find I'm really quick with it. But I don't have the Pellenc long reach.
          • Good to know, thanks. Price is hard to swallow though ;)

Currently looking at some of the Ego stuff as I love using the battery gear now. Had to use the petrol hedge cutter yesterday and hated it.

Mine has been fine so far but then again I've not even drained the battery once yet!
Saying that mine is the extending one is that the 86?
What was the problem out of interest?
    • We have the telescopic one too. Very handy bit of kit. Hasn't suffered with the same issue yet but it is a younger machine. It does have the same mechanism for running the blade so the potential is there so fingers crossed it doesn't.

No its the short reach. We have the long reach too which stopped working once but has been fine since.

Hi Green Girl Garden Care, we're sorry to hear you're having issues with your HSA86.

We obviously can't diagnose any issues without seeing the unit and I presume you already have an approved dealer that you are talking to about the warranty? However, if we can help we'd like to try and resolve your issues. Could you get in touch with our Customer Services department so that they can find out a bit more about what has happened and which dealer you have visited and then hopefully we will be able to help you resolve the problem? The Customer Services team's contact details are: enquiries@stihl.co.uk or 01276 417678. I'll let them know that you will be in touch so they have the background information. Thanks very much,

    Kind regards,

    STIHL GB

Yes please give them a heads up as it is sitting at Amp my dealer because Sthil have refused warranty. The machine was in 3 times within warranty and now is outside warranty but I feel an ongoing issue has not been solved. It's definitely not miss use as the long reach we use more has been fine. I'd certainly like to resolve the issue as a customer of 12 years I don't want to have to move away from Sthil.Thanks. Helen.
