Hello all,

I need to make some planters for a client, they want them staining grey. I was going to use pressure treated timber or decking then stain it, however I've been told you have to wait 3-6 months as the pressure treatment will repel the stain.

So i am now looking at untreated timber 4.5cm thick then apply the stain, will this protect the wood as well as pressure treated ?

Any advise appreciated .

Thanks

Marcus

  • you could stain them, then apply waterproofer?

  • You could always see if the timber merchants have any timber that has been hanging around the yard for a while. If they have it will have discoloured compared to the new stuff and people may not be so keen on buying it, which means they'll be well chuffed at you being happy to buy it.

  • Thanks for your advise.
Does anyone have any products brands they would recommend l was looking at silkens.

Hunt out their product guides on the site. Good background info.

    • Thanks Gary. It does look like there aren't any products that you can treat new pressure treated with so I will have to have a re think.
