I don't think it's possible to use wildflower turf in a domestic lawn scenario Sam.

First of all any constant traffic would wipe out the wild flowers but also, with wild flowers, you only tend to cut as little as possible so as to see the flowers come to fruition.

I've known wildflower turf be used for edges of lawns and heard of people wildflower turf with paths mowed through it but you can't mow it like a normal lawn and kids can't really run around on it. Of course, they could play in it and have fun watching the wildlife.

The other thing is, if it's looking a bit weak you can't just give it a feed like you would with a normal lawn. Wildflowers need nutrient poor soil and take many years to establish high levels of species diversity, especially if planted from seed.

you can have some species - they just need to be low growing ? so on a 2/4 week mid cut they dont get removed

my home lawn has a wide variety of low flowering plants -- many i cant id -- but lots of ajuga types , daises and clovers - these can flower to a degree by just high cutting every few weeks

this company do actually advise regular mowing and feeding to there mix

I would imagine you could therefore get species rich grass and then have the options to leave some areas slightly longer -- or even alter the mowing heights shedules over different spaces creating intresting zones ?

Thanks everyone- this confirms my thinking - It regards a specification we're working for a domestic lawn that will be trafficked by the usual ball games running etc. Thanks again everyone for your comments
