Show garden water feature

Hello all,  Has anyone any experience or ideas on how to build a water feature at a show garden so that the materials can be re-used?

I entered the RHS Metamorphosis competition for this year's Gardeners World Live Show and my design has been selected to be one of 4 exhibits.  (Yayyyy!)

Next problem is the little matter of planning how to build the thing. Part of the competition requirements was to design a garden using Bradstone porphyry paving and setts and Bradstone sandstone walling and coping. Plus the design had to include a water feature. My design has a 2-tier raised pond with cascade.  So now I'm trying to think of a way of building the pond so it lasts the show, but can be dismantled and (ideally) the materials re-used rather than skipped.

Any suggestions?  Happy to credit suggestions used in leaflets distributed at the show.

Joan

  • Hi Joan,

Do you have any images of the design/pond you are looking at creating?

      • Hi Matt. Last comment had an image - don't know if it is clear enough.  Let me know if not, Matt. Basically, 2 ponds within planting areas. Short 'blade' cascade from higher pond to lower. Highest walling that retains water is 440mm high.  Ponds are 'overlapping' squares of side 1m. Funny orange and yellow thing is a sculpture - nothing to do with water feature.

  • Are you sorted Joanna. If not have done this before so can give some advise. Leigh www.outsidewater.co.uk Sorry only just seen post

    • Thanks Leigh.  All advice gratefully received. The image with this post is what I've come up with so far.  However I'm looking at ways of reducing the amount of work and wastage of hard landscaping materials involved.  (Show gardens are very much theatre rather than real!)  Considering shallow plywood or recycled plastic interior 'tanks' clad with the 100mm thick sandstone walling - interiors hidden by 160mm wide coping stones and planting.  But only worth doing if it'll work!

As i said - all thoughts gratefully received.3314719638?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024
