Self supported trellis?

Hi all,I've been asked to quote for a job that in essence seems quite straightforward but as I've not done anything like it before, I thought I'd ask you good folks for your thoughts first :)The client wants 4 new roses planted, equidistant from each other in a raised bed. The raised bed is already there surrounded by a 3 or 4 course high brick wall. They want a trellis per rose, for looks and support, and they need to be self supporting.I'm thinking a framed trellis with a small post either side, driven in using metpost spikes (as space is limited and roses won't be keen on concrete). Is that the best way to get them up do you think? Has anyone tried anything similar? I thought metposts only come in 3" and 4" square sizes, no smaller ... is that the case? 3" posts seem overkill for a simple trellis no higher than 1.5m.I'd love to hear your thoughts, cheers :)Also does anyone have any preferred suppliers for this kind of woodwork please?

    Hi Chris,

The smallest metpost spike  is 2x2, I've used them myself & in clients gardens. They work well.

As John said though you can get wooden rose obelisks and of course metal ones

Search for 'Rose Obelisks' and think heavy duty.

    • My sincere thanks to you both John and Geoffrey, I'm grateful for your feedback.  I'll go and research obelisks for now then and let you know how I get on :)
