We run a Nissan Cabstar truck and a van , the insurance on both are not unreasonable, so I suppose it's a case of shopping around.
I know what you mean tho re trying to get along with one vehicle and never regret doubling up. It's not fair to keep asking an employee to just "pop a bag of dust and a couple of bags of sand in your boot!"
just been through this. had my truck and a van on separate policies and was paying 1200 for the year for both of them, with only me driving the truck and three drivers on the van (me and two others under 25) 11 years ncd on the truck and 3 on the van. Bought another van. went on line to Aviva for their multi van insurance and got the new van insured for 420 with 0 ncd and the truck for 300, with all of us named drivers. The third van had to do separately as you can only do 2 vehicles on the multi van discount (crazy!) and that came out at 360. So in total im paying 1080 for all three vehicles, with all of us able to drive any vehicle and protected no claims and voluntary excess of 150! I tried to get the guy to do it over the phone and he said he couldn't match it as the website gives cheaper deals than they can do over the phone (double crazy!)
closest I got through a broker was £3000! and the comparison websites didn't get close
http://www.aviva.co.uk/van-insurance/
also go direct to rac or aa for fleet breakdown cover, much cheaper than doing through insurance companies. got full cover for all three vehicles for 200!
and by god does it make it easier us all being able to hop into each van to pop off and get stuff on jobs. One other little tip. I've made a driver responsible for each van and they have to give the van a check over last thing each Friday to check for any problems, and the a labourer responsible for cleaning out each van on a Friday pm. Delegation!
Tried Aviva online and for the original van £750 which isn't bad for my neck of the woods but when I added the second van it was a staggering £2114.95!Was wondering if having both vans registered to the company makes this much difference or did I accidentally press the mug button!
Thermo nice tip making the driver/labourer responsible will be taking this on board, also considering using a daily log book for mileage checks(we trust the lads but anyone can be tempted to use van as shopping trolley!Breakdown cover we get "free" via our bank accounts.
was with aviva would not recommend them to anyone theyre incompetent
find me an insurance company that isn't!
