Recycled Rubber or similar paving

Have a school project and need to source a decent supplier of rubber paving or equivalent. Anyone on here who deals with this. Frustrated as meant to be sustainable and all sources found so far are in Asia.Or is there a decent alternative available?.Thanks in advance

  • Try Ecoscape. This was the one of only two companies I saw at Glee this year that I found interesting. Not sure where they get their rubber from though. If you use them, let me know how you get on

  • Hi, there are a number of companies recycling rubber in the UK - precisely what sort of rubber paving are you looking for - rated safety paving, loose mulch, pre-cast mats? Let me know and I can direct to the right people.

  • Ecoscape fit the bill precisely. Great company and well assured as to their sustainable credentials as they are signed up to the Eco schools scheme also. Very user friendly also.
  • there was a company at GLEE with a circle of rubber (natural) slabs but it was a proto-type .......i have details somewhere in my bag of literature.............
  • I talked to Ecoscape's rep at GLEE. Apparently the rubber is re-cycled from used fork-lift truck tyres!

I saw the stuff insitu for the first time this year and from a distance looks a bit like Bark Mulch. My only reservation is to how easily it can be cleaned.
  • The product we are going to use are the mats, which we will, (although it states on the site it is unnecessary to do so), peg into a permeable surfacing surround. There is a choice of colours also. A little pricey but there is no alternative really. I really liked their tree mats also, again pricey, but the lack of maintenance therafter makes them very suitable for street planting.
Having been doing the rounds phoning and trying to tie down the actual manufacturing source of the other companies selling 'sustainable' or 'eco friendly' products, I was appalled at the absolute lack in most cases of being able to proof this. Most of the products came from China and Asia and there is a little doubt over whether the recycled products are actually made from recycled material at all. This is quite a problem as without double checking how many people are being conned into believing they are using an 'eco friendly' product, when it isn't. This is without considering the import impact on the environment. So whilst you pay a little more for Ecoscapes at least it is made in UK.
  • There was a stockist at Glee last year who did rubber chippings looked exactly like bark chippings. It was a recycled rubber as well but I can't remember their names - sorry not much help am I?
