For use when estimating or setting out ?
We have two bought from Amazon (will check their make), but good enough for estimating/quoting. Relatively cheap, has small wheel and collapsible handle. More expensive versions have larger wheel, battery powered dial light, stand and bag.
If for setting out, I would question if you can use them accurately enough, especially if on a slope or rough ground. They do 'skip' a little
I use a second hand collapsible wheel for estimating and material tape reel for setting out - the same one I've used for 35 years - probably paid for it's self by now!
Have a look here
Thanks Robbie - much appreciated!

Yes Ben - As a practicing Garden Designer I need to speed up my surveying time and was hoping a wheel would help me achieve this. Any suggestions?

Hi Phil
Have you ever considered using a Leica Disto laser distance measurer?
Morning Phil
I have considered it but wasn't confident of it working well in a garden environment. Plus some of my gardens measure over 60m in length therefore I would have to revert to a tape anyway. Have you used one? Your experience?
I like the idea of transporting something smaller to site visits and it being fast to use.

I've only used one indoors but I've seen them used externally with good results.
It's worth paying a little bit extra for a strong laser.
Distance shouldn't be a problem. Just make up a target board for intermediate measurements on longer distances. 60m is adequate for most garden applications.
I had a wheel and used it a lot but they are not always accurate, especially when measuring undulating or bumpy ground or slopes, for example.
