I suspect your PLI Excess will be more than the cost of replacing a sensor, so see if it makes to pay direct first.
n.b. Likely the majority of any cost will be the call-out/fitting charge.
I would echo Gary's comments - your excess is likely to be more than the bill.
However - if you go down the insurance route surely this would be claimed off of your vehicle insurance rather than PL insurance?
Good spot... not sure which one takes precedent !
I reckon if you tried to claim from your PL insurance they would direct you to your motor insurance company but still note it on file and potentially penalise you on renewal (for both!).....not that I'm sceptical about insurance companies!

You're wise to be sceptical about the the insurance co's. Even if you call them to see if you can claim, rather than fixing the problem privately, they will make a note of it ready for renewal time.
Just to clarify for you all, your Public Liability Insurance will almost certainly have an exclusion for anything involving a Motor Vehicle. The motor insurance policy would pick up the costs for this incident.
I have had similar things where people have done the same and normally a trusted spark or my self have sorted it.
The odd one has been a pain though
