Pricing v large areas of lawn?

I'm looking for a little bit of solid advice, here goes. We're purchasing our first high powered sit on shortly. I've already got 2 contracts, a) 2 acre plot and b) domestic home around an acre of grass. With regards to the lawn mowing, do similar contractors price via a) sq metre b) per acre c) per HR. d) set fee, however just trying to work out a formula to price for these larger projects which we are now aiming for. If you don't want to publicly answer, please feel free to pm me.The two I have got, I've sort of worked out the time it will take (sort of)! As I'm really a little unsure how fast the new kabuta ride on will work at. Im never going to tell a client we work on £75 an HR. But I can't price these jobs as cheap as other jobs when im using a piece of kit worth 8 times the amount!Any advice would be useful,ThanksAndrew

As far as contract grass cutting goes if you try and charge 8 times as much because the machine costs 8 times as much it will become an expensive paperweight in my experience.
You need to know how fast the machine cuts in reality not just the figures in the manual!!
Also cut cycle is very important.
Also remember that £50k tractors and flails don't get far past £30 an hour.
I know it's not the same but it does show that just because it's expensive does not mean massive returns.
You can and will make better returns vs a big walk behind though.

I will put my tin hat on now:)
  • i have iseki 48 inch mowers and cut around an acre an hour more if your on long runs . i think you be lucky to get much over 30 per hour

    • Comments much appreciated, I've had one chap on a fbook forum comment on cut and drop 0.05p per sq m, 0.10p per sq m cut and collect, his gotta be taking the P. That's 8000 sq m (2 acre) X 0.05 / £400.00 cut snd drop. That's great. Can't see that bring right.!!!

He's missed a decimal place:) more like £40
      • i would use a 21" walk behind for that especially cut and drop
      • i think he got decimal point in wrong place more like 0.01

        • That's what I was thinking Roy, I may start with 0.02p for 1st after then 0.01p or 0.015p for each 1/3 of an acre upwards, that's £80 for 1st acre and £13.50 for each 1/3 acre upwards dependant on frequency. We would be cutting and dropping as its an kubuta 48 inch deck

I think a lot of this depends on where you are.
I think £80 is high for cut and drop for the first acre unless it's once a month or less!
You may get it. You would not get it near me I'm almost sure as plenty would do it for less.
My ride ons don't go out for less than £50.
