We have to get approx 4 tonne of slate onto a 4' high raised area and I was thinking about hiring one of these

http://www.jewson.co.uk/tool-hire/earth-moving/loaders/products/6718/powered-wheelbarrow-and-loading-ramp/

It has to go from a car park, about 100m through a 33" wide gap.  Any opinions on the above?

Have a read of this Darren: http://www.landscapejuice.com/2007/11/the-muck-truck.html

I owned a Honda power barrow for many years and I'd recommend one without hesitation.

  • Ok I see that being a potential hazard and a PITA

Why don't you try local hire shops and see who has a high tip barrow. Like the muck truck Phil posted but able to raise before tipping. Generally on tracks and have a larger capacity than muck truck..

See if local plant hire places have a Hinowa Tracked Tip Truck. It's like a bigger version of the one Phil/James suggested. The one we've used can take ~500kg and you can stand on the back or 'walk it'. Same width as a micro digger so can get thru most gates/doors etc

    There is this locally http://thetoolhireshop.com/category/building-plant/building-equipme...

However, it says max width 800mm and our narrowest point is 835mm which is between a wall and a stainless steel drainpipe that appears to be welded together (god knows why!)

  • I just came across these battery powered barrows as I use electric tools, but don't know if they are available to hire: http://www.zallys.com/frontend/controller/prodotti.php?prod=81&...

    • I own a hinowa 500kg high tip tracked dumper and it has a width of 780mm so will go through your gap no problem and tip straight on top without need for ramps, however be careful through the tight point as they can be jerky and the wrong move will see the pipe ripped of

Or just wheel barrow it in a couple of good laborers will have 4 ton shifted in no time

      • Tracked dumper will do it but if you're got labour available then two decent wheelbarrows will be more cost effective.

Went to see the Hinowa high tip tracked dumper (with shovel) yesterday. I think it will be ideal for the job as long as I'm careful through the tight spot.

Thanks for all your input folks.

Can you add some photos/video and a review to this thread after Darren?

Yes, Phil will try. My next obstacle is getting the slate delivered on a Saturday as most of my suppliers won't commit to a Saturday deliveyet. It's got to come through a very busy car park so should be interesting!
