Postcrete with small posts

Evening all,

I'm looking for some advice on using postcrete. It advises one bag per post, but the posts I will be using on a job will only be 4 ft (3ft above ground) so can I get away with perhaps 2/3 of a sack per post?

How deep are they going in. But I would assume if it's a 3rd less area being concreted then you could use 1/3 less postcrete.

Also does it really only recommend 1 bag? I've always used 2 bags for a 45cm hole for 10cm inch posts.

I say that that would be fine for them then especially with it being a fence that the wind can blow through.

If your actually using Lafarge postcrete then a full bag on a 4ft post will be fine, personally I wouldn't try to get away with 1/3 of a bag less per post. Not worth messing about with..

Try and have postcrete to just above ground level as it will stop the post rotting at the top of the concrete and snapping off. Depends on situation though if you can hide it under some gravel etc. not very good if grass under it as it would look a bit silly.
I always use at least a bag per post (more for the big posts 4 by 4 and 8ft plus size) it costs a bit more but it makes them stay upright, I've not had one fall down on me yet!
  • What you will potentially save isn't worth having to come back and re do the job. Do it once properly and you won't need to worry about it. What happens when some kid rides into it or kicks a football against it and it falls down due to you saving money?

  • that sounds about right 1 bad per 4' post, I've use that amount on less tbh

    • got to ask, but why use postcrete. its much cheaper and simpler to knock up a barrow of dry mix concrete. ram it in well and the post is solid to work with and can be altered if needs be, and then wet it off at end of day. a lot cheaper and mix is definitely better than many of the postcrete mxes that are available

  • I use both postcrete and self mixed, When putting up a run of fencing for example the pic below. I set each post with only 1 bag of post crete, it makes them solid enough to work with without having to spend the time ramming dry mix concrete in. at the at the end of each day I will mix good strong wet concrete and top up all the holes to just above ground level. Best of both worlds in my opinion. Personally I wouldn't put any post less than 450mm in the ground. 3314766165?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024
