Hi Guys

I am currently looking at getting some new power tools for my garden maintenance setup, can anyone recommend anyone online that are reasonably priced and have used before?

Thanks in advance.

    • Using a local supplier is all well and good if they are actually up to the job. A good dealer is the exception rather than the rule. They often range from the incompetent to the downright rip off so choose wisely.

F R Jones get my custom whenever i can give them the trade and I've had excellent service from The Green Reaper.

I agree. I've tried spending all my money in one place, to 'build a relationship' and it was a waste of time. Got fed up of big agri dealers who talk the talk but know sweet FA (and why should they, being paid £9 per hour?) and also got fed up of so called specialists who really only care about the little old lady they can rip off every year for a 'full service' on a mower that's done 8 hours work the whole season.

FR Jones are cheap, but I really hope they sort their teething problems with their new system as the delays recently have meant I've had to look elsewhere.

Have found a local ish dealer who specialise in forestry gear, are realistic in pricing, and stock literally everything in the Stihl and Huskly range- very impressive. So took them some biscuits at Christmas and fingers crossed!

    • I second this. Also used Radmore & Tucker last year, for a Husqvarna backpack blower, and it was a very good experience. Plus they were the cheapest I could find too.

Maybe we are spoilt around here as there are lots of good dealers. Yes Mow with us is the online arm of WGM. We also have a couple of other Stihl dealers and some really good smaller independent mower servicer / fixers. Plus Lister Wilder in Reading and a good John Deere dealer, Farol,  in Wokingham.

Most of the dealers i have used locally are incompetent if not mechanically  with their admin like losing machinery , I once fell out with every local dealer which meant a long  trip across the Pennine's to a highly recommended firm , well worth the trek .

One local Stihl dealer has always given me great deals and done small repairs on the spot , stuck to his quote even if its taken much longer to repair but there is always a very long wait to get machinery back from a service or more complicated repair .

I am trying a different old established dealer this year for my little mowers who specialises in big stuff but their website looks as if they are aware of the smaller business .

I agree with Andrew... the back up from  the local dealer is worth its weight in gold, Last autumn for example a chainsaw wouldn't start, I thought I had tried everything to no avail - I took it in to the local dealer who I now know, and even though I didn't buy it from them, it was a Ebay purchase, they put it in the workshop there and then, and it was fixed FOC within 30 mins.

Straight away that probably saved me around £50 to £100 - and the saw was up and running straight away. That, for me is worth the extra you may have to pay on kit.

That’s brilliant when the dealers are like that but they seem to be few and far between. I’d happily pay more than online prices if that service came with them but round here it simply doesn’t.

One to avoid is mower magic online sales, awful customer service!
  • JJ Machinery is a small independent machinery repairs and sales business in Moretonhampstead, Devon. He does a good job and is fairly priced. I have used Radmore & Tuckers last year to buy a Honda Mower on line.

I have used cheapmowers.com to buy a chipper and a soil tiller and delivery was quick , both machines run problem free . I made a small saving but it was done more for convenience .
