Not been paid

Not a big deal as only small amount ....  but curious if there are any strategies to extract the last due payment from a customer. Fortunately its a small amount (£30) but unfortunately its a clients second home and they are rarely in residence and all correspondence is via text. (nb : im not losing any sleep and resigned to writing it off but thought would ask)

  • I had one customer that totally ignored my invoices and requests for payment so on the last visit I gave the lawn a super grow treatment

If you have regular late payers then why not ask them onto a payment plan with monthly DD or take card details so you can chare BEFORE each visit. If they refuse then stop going

I'm thinking insisting on 4 week standing orders for next year. Just growing to a point where its a bit of concern in the back of my mind. Have been invoicing monthly through Jobber and its all a little slow at best. Give them a centimetre and they take an inch situation?

  • Just politely say you need payment before the next visit, and once it's square advise that you need to move to advance payments for this job. If not, you have to resign.

I don't abide by cash being king... it's a hassle having to go to the bank, so I prefer direct payments or standing order.

In 8 years trading I've only had one single payment not made, also for £30, by a customer who expected the world for £30.
