No go stilletoes...

Kerrie's 'Ladies who dig it' discussion is my favourite one on here... so, in a similar vein, ladies - let's discuss gardening clobber.... as a committed amateur, I'm generally found pootling round the garden shod in a pair of LL Bean hot pink slippers (they have good soles and are slip on), trackie bottoms and an old tee shirt, hair tied up with a rubber band and huge sunnies... today, I finally bought myself a straw hat to complete the look (£1 from Overgate Charity Shop).... in terms of aping celebrity style, I'm more Mr Ed than Charlize Theron (especially with the hat)....so, what's 'in' for the professional gardener???? And does anyone really 'do a Charlie Dimmock'... that's got to be sooooooo uncomfortable.....

Oooooh no - I'd be tuckin em in me boots!!!! How does she DO that? Must admit, with the weather last few days been out in me boob tubes and shorts, plus proper support garments!! Scares some of my older male clients, but they soon run back indoors. Hardest thing to pinpoint is shoes - got ballet bumps, flip flops and hard soled mules in the car in case I need to do heavy digging, but the feet need a tan too, right? The sunnies complete a look that I wouldn't dare wear walking in town but happy to go to work in...!!! Also got a lovely baby pink baseball cap my mum bought me from Kew - I'm a vision!!!!!!!!!
  • Thanks Debbie! Having once gone to work with the underwire on one side broken, I can honestly say that proper support garments are a must! I felt like lop-sided lulu all day!
  • AND the underwire keeps pinching all day!! Went once with the wire poking out the top - kept nicking me on the chin!! Not an attractive look.

  • so funny guys!
bra's a must - i wouldn't dream of going out of the house without one, let alone be seen in public or working sans bra- crikey!!
my gardening clobber doesnt sound as colourful as yours Cat- or as daring as yours Debbie (boob toob wouldnt be my most flattering garment!) usually jeans or shorts, t-shirt or vest and walking boots (often flipflops or crocs in my own garden but hardly practical or sensible!)- must try harder- have some big sunglasses and floppy hat somewhere....
  • I am glad that you are enjoying the 'Ladies who dig it' discussion, it has turned out to be fun! When I'm digging I always wear the same combo (not the same garments everyday you understand, but there is a theme going on).
Jeans (fairly loose fit for comfort)
Vest tee shirt under a long sleeved, light weight tee shirt.
Always take my trusty old Gap fleece top (quite fitted) too, even if it's hot along with an old puffer jacket of Al's (horrid thing but has lots of pockets and does keep wind and rain off me)
This layered ensemble insures that whatever the weather throws down, I can adapt accordingly.
No high heels though. I have three pairs of footwear, but no Ugg Boots. Here they are:

Sketcher trainers from TK Max for warmer days.

A pair of pretty Hunter 3/4 high wellies from TK Max. Chester likes these, could mean 'walkies'!
But my mainstay in the foot department? - a pair of CAT boots!

  • Thanks Kerrie - you've made me think I should change my name to Gina... but maybe it's appropriate to have gardeners relying on my namesakes as a mainstay!!!! Anyway, up to the challenge... here are my hot pink slippers....

Those Hunters are a bit posh... you plannin' on going to the Queen's Garden Party in those?
  • Hi Gina
The Queen has a pair similar to your hot pink slippers but she was very interested in my rose patterned Hunters at last years bash. I didn't ask Liz, but can you dig in those?
  • Well I am know n for my ugg boots and any other leftover shoes I can find. I do of course carry steel caped boots with me but I hate doing up laces sometimes. Better to slip on and off don't u think!!

Having long hair is a bind at times especially mine even if I try to tie it up it never stays, so I give up most of thetime and plod away hair in my eyes, jeans and baggy jumper, ugg boots or wellies. What a picture we must all look. I think the time has come for a Calender Girls for Landsacpe Juice- what do you think?!
  • Not sure about calendar girls, even if I am dieting (today I traded my wine calories for a Thornton's fondant mouse - 134 calories in case anyone is counting...managed just under 1500 today).... maybe a "Where's Waldo" book... spot the gardener in this picture - with the tip of a pair of pink slippers peeking out from the side of a shed..... or a wisp of hair spotted just above the open boot of an estate car....
  • Ye gods - Calendar Girls - shriek!!!! Not EVEN in the boob tube!!!! See Claudia that's where the sunnies come in. Provided they're tight fitting enough they act as a hair band even when you spend most of the day with yer bum in the air, like we do! I have to admit the tube is very strong elastic but the tan - halter necks out for the girly weekends that I'm not working!! LOVIN those wellies - must get a pair - do they go with shorts? Wet weather does bring out the hiking boots but they are a bit clumpy with shorts and boob tube, plus you have to wear socks. Sweaty feet - urgh!! I just love this job, and I get to scare all the kiddies with my outfits.
The only book I could star in would be the Gruffalo!!!!
Think I need to get a pink boob tube to go with the wellies.......
