Hi there,

we are a smallish gardening services company based in edinburgh offering gardening services and garden design.

Just wondering if anyone would like to take a look at our website, in particular:

http://www.gardening-services-edinburgh.com/Garden-Design-Edinburgh.htm

and

http://www.gardening-services-edinburgh.com/Edinburgh-Gardeners.htm

and give me some advice / feedback

the issue, even if it is, we get about 300 visitors per month from the edinburgh area and are running at 5 to 7% contact from the website.

I've no idea if this is a good level of contact or not - i was looking for +10% contact through the website

Any suggestions are more than welcome

thanks

andy

  • hi there,

may i suggest you have an offer of a FREE garden look over and advice service on your homepage, with a link that takes the traffic directly to a form or email where they give you there details.

this way you collect there data and will probably get more people contacting you as you are offering something for free.

no promises mind on throughput but it maybe worth a try. just make sure you have the time spare to look at all these potential new clients.

let us know how it goes.

  • Nicely designed but heavy on text - needs images of your work IMO

  • Hey folks,

some good advice here, I like the idea of a gallery of past project - quite obvious once you think about it!

    thanks

  • Hi Andy

    I have clicked through every page of your site and I have analysed it from two points of view;

    1)      As a perspective customer – Does this site inspire me to want to make contact with the owner? Do I identify with illustrations, pictures and visual impact when I think of the work I need done in my own garden?

    2)      As a Search Engine – What is the subject? Does this site show it is an authority on the subject matter? Does my own database show that other authority related sites are linking with this site? Do my records show that this is a growing website? Is it easy to navigate? More… More… More…

    First, number 1.

What I like about your site, is its colours are soft, simple and warm. I found my way around your site fairly simply although some of the links I clicked took me to the same page and the information was a bit too short and to the point. Some pages had plenty of text and others not enough. The menus took me a short while to work out how they worked but I got it in the end. I was disappointed that there were not enough pictures of your work or any of you in person.

    Second, number 2.

Your page on Garden Design had the perfect amount of text and left the search engine in no doubt about what was on offer with good use of keywords. Unfortunately, it went a little downhill from there. There seems to be some confusion on how you should be using your Meta tags and that means you are going to score lower on the search engines. Having said that, at least you are performing well for your main keywords; which is either credit to your marketing or because you have little competition in your neck of the woods. There are a lot more observations but I don’t think this is the appropriate place to discuss them. Plus only a little amount of my time is free. :)

I would like to pick you up on a couple of other things you have said.

First, ‘300 visitors per month’; if you want to use your website as more than an electronic business card and/or an internet business listing, you need this number to increase significantly! I receive between 600 to 1,000 visitors per day on my website depending on the time of year and that is not hard to achieve providing you are addressing all things you need to in number 2) As a Search Engine… above.

Second, ‘5 to 7% contact’; that is a really good return rate! If you are getting that you should definitely be working to increase your website traffic. Many businesses are diverting their advertising budget to their SEO budget because they know that in the long run it makes sense. In your case, you already know you have a good contact rate – capitalise on it!

I hope you found my criticism constructive. If I can help you please do not hesitate to contact me on steve@garden-design-pictures.com as part of my business is helping others with there Website/SEO needs. I’m currently working with two other garden designer / landscaper gardeners both with their website design tweaks and their SEO. Anyway, end of pitch, if you need help please call anytime.

    Regards

    Steve

    Hi

The site it self looks ok but someone needs to go through it and correct all the spelling mistakes. I had a brief look and found 4 on 2 pages. This will not look good to customers.

Probably shot my self in the foot now but here are our sites.

  • Hi

I liked your site - very professional and the soft shades give a feeling of quality and care. I have to agree with some earlier comments that there may be a bit too much text, especially for the home page; but I admit, finding a balance between grabbing attention, maintaining interest and providing information is not an easy task.

Good luck though because overall I think the site is great

    Hi Andy,

Agree with the other comments but also,

My browser is Firefox and the site does not display well, words are often over written, the large tab top LH corner partially covers the top LH tab on each page

I just don't understand this at all,
