Use a good broker such as Academy or A Plan.
    • Generalist or specialist? I fell for the "independent, assess all the companies for you" baloney years ago, tried several generalists including the FSB sponsoring brokers. I was in a specialist business. They just couldn't cut it so I had wasted an awful lot of time before researching the market myself and turning to a specialist.

NFU, Trust and a small handful of others seem to know what they are doing in our business and they are brokers. Specialised, yes, but brokers.

I'm not suggesting one specific specialist against another but our business is a niche with its own specific needs. A still smaller niche when you realise what a small proportion of us actually hold valid insurance policies specific to our businesses as a proportion of the total number of operators in the field. IMHO the general brokers simply don't know where to look to find a good policy, let alone several policies to make any comparison between.
