New van anyone.

Whilst doing some online research for new vans, I see that LDV is back once again, their range looks on paper rather good with an electric version also. Time will tell but most of the electrical items in a home now made in China why not your new van? Any thoughts from the Forum?

  • LDV? as my ten year old would say..... Oh...HELL NO!!!
  • VW hold their value better, breakdown less but cost more to buy. Having seen the repair/maintence bills of several other brands vs VW - I know what I'd rather invest in.

LDV certainly don't have a great name where I am in Scotland .. the only good ones they made were the Mk5 Transit engined ones (mighty Banana engine!), even then they were horrible cabs and as rust buckety as an untreated Transit. The newer (chinese made iirc?) Vans have a terrible name here too, with most examples barely reaching the 100k mark before they're scrap!

    Oh god it's back!

I had a 2005 LDV Maxus, with 45,000 miles on it it had to have a new turbo, new gearbox, the list goes on. I got all that done then it got written of a week later!
  • So no takers then? With so much choice in vans now from the mainstream manufacturers, I suppose it's not worth the risk, poor reliability will lead to poor profits!

I must admit, did have a look at the new V80, looks cracking, but I'm not too keen on the Italian engine combined with what looks a near identical chassis and running gear to its predessesor. I'll keep my eye out, it is becoming a bit of a battle keeping the MK6 transit going...!

The five year/125k mileage warranty is what has piqued my interest - they must be confident in its abilities...?
  • I got a brand new redesigned Citroen Dispatch MWB back in November. So far I am pleased with it for fuel economy and is ideal for working locally.

I saw one of these the other day, it looks a really nice van, love the styling of it, would be interested to know how you get on with it Andrew, I may make it my next van if the reviews are good..
      • Yes it's a very smart looking van actually and as it is a brand new design and Citroen are keen to 'advertsise it presence' I pay a very reasonable monthly loan on it. My only issue is that the as it's very economical and it is set up on eco mode, the radio only lasts for up to half an hour at lunch time when having your lunch break before switching off to save the battery etc. A lot less if you are constantly poppping in to the Van throughout the morning fetching tools etc. I have mentioned this to Citroen and they said it cannot be over ridden. Not a big issue but a little annoying!
    • I have the Peugeot version of this van, the Expert. It's pretty much exactly the same van, with just slightly different exterior styling. I too am very happy with it so far.
