New generation Hayter Harrier 41

Popped in to see my mower chap the other day and he was very animated about a new generation of Hayter Harrier 41's that are coming out next year.  He'd attended a dealer's seminar at Saltex where they'd given him a big spiel about the new model - all metal deck (no placcy bits) that has been aerodynamically designed with better collection in mind.  Apparently the deck is tilted forward slightly on lower cut heights to improve air flow.  I know wet collection is a frequent gripe on the current model range.  My 41 is lovely in the dry for my dinky little lawns, but in the wet it is pretty appalling.  Would be interested to see if anyone else has seen or heard about this new design ?  He said presently it's only the 41 that has been redesigned, but there are plans to do the 48 and 56 later on.

About time too - was bemoaning the hayter situation with my local dealer / mechanic just today. He was telling me of another local dealer that had returned 6 new broken customers mowers back to the factory in 1 day so no way I'd consider a new 48 or 56 at the moment. I'm looking at selling our pair of old 56's wide bag models and getting a new weibang 56 pro in the spring.

My local dealer was a major hayter dealer but is now more weibang than hayter. He tells me that the new hayter's should be good as they have lost a great deal of business to the weibang range and are desperate to claw it back. My view if tjey can be as goodas weibang but not so heavy they might make it work.
  • am I right in thinking hayter was bought out by another company a while back ?

Hayter is effectively now owned by Toro and there's a merging of ideas & rebadging

  • They've got some info up on their website now - surpised to see it's got a Honda GCV160.

    • Well those blades are certainly high lift, it should create good airflow.

Well spotted Ross, I looked but obviously not well enough !  On first sight it looks like it could be good.  The B&S engine on my current one is 130cc and can be a bit temperamental, guess the Honda at 160cc is going to have a bit more oomph.  Grass bag looks a lot bigger as well.  Wash out port à la Toro design (does anyone ever use it though ?!).  Give me an electric start version (I'm lazy) and I might be tempted.

oops just noticed current B&S engine is 190cc so this one has a smaller engine

      • Wash port looks like a good idea, but I always prefer to brush/scrape the decks when dry and finish with a pressure wash, just heading in with the pressure washer only makes a right old mess.

Might just be the photo, but has that got a mulch plug fitted as I can't see the ejection chute ?
