Moss killer

I have a customer with a gravel drive that has very bad moss. 2016 seems to have been been a good year for moss! I have tried in the past garden centre moss killers but it has not really touched it. I know this has been discussed before but as chemicals come and go faster than I can count I need fresh knowledge!Does any one have a solution. There is a lawn adjacent so it can't be a kill all solution!Ideas welcome.

  • Sodium Hypochlorite. I pay £13 plus vat for 20 litres, its 10.5 percent strength. Even really bad Moss and lichen can be treated at 4 percent strength. Yes there are lots of fancy products out there at equally fancy prices. Just make sure you don't have overspray re the lawn and triple rinse the sprayer afterwards to protect the seals.
  • Hi Andy,

We have a product called MMC Pro which is Didecyldimethyl-ammonium chloride Propan 2-olAlcohols.

You use the MMC at 4 parts water to 1 part MMC and you will cover 175m2 with a full 5L can mixed with 20L water. Do it on a dry sunny day and if possible leaf blow the area first - this gets excess moisture out of the moss. For very bad infestations, will possibly need a second treatment 2-3 weeks later.

Here is a link to the product on our website: http://www.agrigem.co.uk/moss-killers/mmc-moss-killer.html

We do offer LJN members Trade Silver prices, so the price would be slightly cheaper for you too.

    Let me know your thoughts,

    Beth Sharpe.

    Hi Andy,

Algoclear or the more concentrated Algoclear PRO will cover upto 1700m2 from a 5L concentrate so provides excellent results at a cheaper m2 price. If there are public areas or concerns for 'children & other animals' then MOSSOFF Multi-surface is a new plant derived moss killer (lawn safe too).

On another note, I don't know of any REGISTERED biocide or pesticide containing Sodium Hypchlorite...

      Hi Richard,

Just wanted to say, i purchased some MOSSOFF multi surface to spray some fences before painting as they were covered in grime. Within 2 weeks the results were fantastic, no health risk, i even sprayed a bit on a small patch of grass to see if it would do any damage, not a single thing!

Safe to say i was impressed.

  • Not on here to dismiss any advice given by companies, I totally accept that Sodium Hypochlorite is not a biocide but it is successfully used as an entire industry called soft washing. Used correctly and with suitable PPE it makes a great cleaner of hard surfaces. I have been using it without issues for over 6 years now.

Curious - Is it approved for use as a Moss Killer on the Statuary label / Approvals list ?

      • PRO

Also worth noting that I believe MMC Pro has had it approval for use on Moss technically removed.

SDS from one of main producers of Sodium Hypochlorite 10-15% (All Grades)
