Leaking pond

Help please, one of my customers has a leak in the middle level of a cascade pond. Does anyone know of any paint or similar that would seal it.It is a concrete based pond and we don't really want to put a liner in as it would mean taking a huge amount to pieces and then rebuilding.Has anyone had and conquered such a problem? Many thanks Richard

  • there is a paint that you use on flat roofs that has fiberglass strands in it its waterproof but you would have to drain the affected area down

its not cheap but will do the job get it from builders merchants

Thanks i think we're reigned to draining it down already:(
Will that be safe for the fish? That's my worry getting something that's safe for the plants and fish.
  • I think it will be as its resin based and dries quite hard if you can find a tin check the label before you  buy I will try and find some on line and put a link on

someone might come up with another idea in the meantime

I've just found this which seems like it will do the trick, will be a expensive job by the look of it!
Can't add link it's called G4 pond paint and sealer on Amazon. Thanks for your help
  • just going to suggest goggling pond sealants as the safety dater on most roof sealants say avoid water courses http://www.screwfix.com/p/thompsons-high-performance-roof-seal-blac...

  • We had exactly the same problem on an old concrete pond two years ago, which was part of a larger landscaping job. The pond had broke its back and you could get a brick laying trowel in the crack.  We emptied the pond, pressure washed the concrete, allowed it to dry completely(important!), treated the crack with a pond sealer mastic applied with a mastic gun(can't remember the name'), then applied a clear G4 sealant to the whole pond.  Two years on, it is still watertight although it isn't something you would want to guarantee! I will try and find the name of the mastic later.

Ok thanks very much sounds like a time consuming job!
      • Overall not that many man hours, but as it is done it stages, you will need to re-visit the site a number of times.  It was ideal for us as we were on site for a month anyway!

Thanks all. Hours are not a problem as I'm there for a whole day every week from now until November then fortnightly so it will fit in fine. If I fill crack on a Friday could I do the seal on the following Monday or is that too soon?
