hi jonathan
first of all watching what i say.... id personally prefer not use a national leaflet firm for many reasons. i used to operate a leaflet business in addition to current business in early years. there is gps tracking which can be a simple cheap jogging app on iphone and then there is live gps tracking - live gps tracking is better as they provide you with a link so you can see your leaflets going out live is which i used to have. personally its a mine field with firms. id pick a firm locally, who offer live gps tracking as to which you have access to.. otherwise there is no point paying another lets say "less professional" firm good money to do something you could easily do yourself - ie put ad on gumtree offering leaflet work to people with iphones paying £45- 50 per 1,000 households - and the distributors email you a copy or give you link to gps track for the day.
Leaflet distribution is a very good way of getting business, if the leaflet has a good design. There is a lot of phycology that goes into a good advert, it has to attract, inform, describe, and have a call to action. It also needs to be designed and delivered to your target market.
When your leaflet drops through the letterbox, the prospect needs to be able to say "wow" that's just what we need right now, and get on the phone to you immediately. If your leaflet design can't do that, than it is possible that you won't get all the customers that are available to your service.
Also, if your leaflet employs the right design and psychological linking, it would help you to obtain higher prices for your work.
Thanks Graeme Matt Adrian and Jon for taking the time to respond.
Graeme, i like the idea about upselling turfing, makes sense, your guy at £25 is good value, is that solus? i really feel thats the way to go.
Matt, youre right about it being a minefield, i was impressed with the guy i spoke to though, ive just seen another of your posts re leaflets, 1 in a 1000 responses, really?? seems so few!
im starting to wonder if leaflet drops are for me, cant decide, there does seem alot of people on here doing it though.
Good idea about doing it myself, finding someone on gumtree to deliver, but id worry about finding someone capable to do a proper job, I wouldnt want to miss my pre season advertising window, ive employed people before, another minefield!!
Adrian, I was planning on having them professionally designed, my knowledge of what you describe is very limited im afraid!
John, yes £49 includes producing them. i would have a go at delivering them myself but it would prob take me a week to deliver a 1000 i reckon, and i dont have the time.
Target estate agents? i read some very negative things about working for them on here, but it obv works for you, are we talking rented properties?
Also remember that you need to put out tens of thousands to get a response because they come in clusters they also reckon that you can put out a leaflet three times in the same area and get the same response rate. But I do get calls off leaflets which were put out the previous year so people do keep them.
cheers Graeme, im beginning to understand its a numbers game, i cant afford to get 1000s out this year, maybe next, thanks for advice.
I've just ordered 5000 and I'm going to post them myself when we are out and about and have half an hour spare.
